Andi's son (in brief, we are reducing a life to two lines) was a violinist performing on NPR

Andi's son is a gifted pianist, not a violinist.

The andi thread seems bogus

The andi thread is most definitely NOT bogus, though I'm sure it would bring great relief to many if it were.

To the OP~

Your stats are excellent, and you should be accepted to a good many of your schools. Do be sure, though, to include some TRUE safeties. BTW, you should be a good candidate, even OOS, for UNC. ~berurah

"The andi thread is most definitely NOT bogus,"

How do you know?

Suffice it to say that I count andi among my "real life" friends. ~berurah

Thanks for the help Berurah...

I really have realized the importance of heeding Andi's warning, whether or not it is bogus, as Mensa proports, its still something to heed

And I don't think its bogus at all, why plan such an eleborate hoax... that would be just cruel

"why plan such an eleborate hoax..."

The reason is called "the Internet".

Wolffy - the reason it is hard to predict chances at many of your schools is due to their very low acceptance rates. Yes, you have the statistics to be considered for acceptance, and I think it very likely that you will receive acceptances. But look at colleges that have higher acceptance rates (check US News for this info) - say 40% or higher for safeties.

OOPS! Violin, piano - one of those. At least I got the NPR part right B! I was working from memory, sorry. It was still instructive.

And as to UNC OOS for his stats- I have personal knowledge of a val from a large area high school with a 1550 who was flat out rejected a few years ago , a very gifted and published writer and musician. He was quite surprised, too as it was his first choice school. And his parent is a somewhat popular nationally syndicated columnist (maybe 100 papers), he thought he was a good bet. (Can't remember if he applied early.) Edit: DW reminds me he was an NMF,too.

As to whether or not andi's son's saga is real ,all I can say is that it has easily passed all cynical criteria I can think of and I doubt most everything, most of the time. ;)

well, I am heeding Andi's warning nonetheless, and will look at some schools with higher acceptance rates...

As per UNC... maybe ill give it a go... why not aye?

Heck , yes!!!! Don't read anything I've posted as saying you aren't an excellent candidate at UNC or anywhere else. You are. Just have a couple safeties that are really safe and that you wouldn't mind attending. You just don't need to have safeties that you think "suck" and you would hate to attend (which I believe is an accurate paraphrase of what you posted.;)). LOL. That's all.

I'm sorry for the harsh language, I can get a bit rough around the edges when college puts me on edge... thanks though!
