Chances at Stanford and others

Before I begin I'd like to ask you guys to PLEASE be honest. Do not sugar coat. I'm applying to Stanford, Harvard, Yale, UChicago, and Princeton. What are my chances of getting in to an?

I'm also a D-rated fencer and have various accolades for that, but not enough to get recruited (plus most of the above schools don't recruit for fencing).

So do you realistic think I have a shot at any of the above schools?

Maybe or maybe not. Hard to say…
51% (Yes) - 49% (No), I guess…
But you do seem like a good applicant and your essays and recs can make it or break it.
Good Luck :)

You definitely have a chance of getting in, but they are still Reaches. Don’t get discouraged-- these schools are reaches for everyone. You would need a lot more EC’s for these kinds of schools. I would say your grades and test scores are fine.

Thanks for the input.

These are all reaches, but you’re def a competitive applicant.

You can get into Uchicago easily if you write good essays.

Harder to say for other 3 though.

HSY are reaches for everyone, but you definitely have a chance.

You are a qualified applicant among others with similar credentials for these schools. Do give them a try but do not put too much hope on them. You do have a decent chance a bit above the admission rate.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Your scores and grades are all good. The main problem is your ECs. When I look at that list, I don’t see anything very unique or “outstanding”.

I’m not saying that you’re not unique. I’m saying that, as a list, your ECs are unimpressive. In your essays, you can definitely expand on a couple of your ECs and make them sound like the most wonderful activities ever.

Just looking at what you’ve posted objectively, I’d say that you have an average chance of getting into all of them. “Average” as in no better than anyone else. With good essays, that chance will grow.
