Hey, wondering what my chances are
Caucasian Male & Noncompetitive public HS in midwest

A note on GPA and rank: Our school has an awful weighing system; I have taken the hardest classes my school has to offer, and my upward trend is incredibly high even though the weighing doesn't accurately reflect it.

I understand what u mean by the weighting system / rank system at your school....my school has a really ****** policy on that too which doesnt reflect course rigor or real academic skill either.

The only thing that hurts is your class rank which is not in the top 10%. Otherwise you're very qualified to enter into each of those universities

well I'm not sure about this but besides Stanford and UPenn, the rest are plausible. Those two are the safeties. I wouldn't worry too much about the weighting...what high school do you go to? That could help a bit. I have a friend that got in Chicago with a 3.2, but he was really smart and it was competitive school. Nevertheless, you have the scores....I think you should be fine.

You attend a "noncompetetive" school, score a near-perfect SAT, yet can't break into the top 10% at your school?? Sorry, but that sends off red flags. Either your school is much more competetive than you're letting on, or you are a classic underachiever, and may have a harder time than you think getting into these schools. Adcoms don't want a talented kid who can't apply himself. Your essay should address this mismatch, IMHO.

Some schools don't count 9th grade - search on CC to find out which ones - that could help a lot...

Um, yeah, stupidkid, I did get <108 on the AMC12. That's why I'm kind of spiteful toward the entire process. I wasn't feeling well on the date of the AMC12, so that reflected my score. If it will make you feel better, I'll prove my score. I don't see the purpose of lying on an internet thread about any of my scores (I have better things to do, like sleep). I barely made AIME.

Whoa, no need to take offense. Just fyi, getting >108 on AMC 12 is many times easier than getting 9 on the AIME. No, I don't need a proof, and there are two AMC dates you know...

Stanford-Match
Northwestern, Chicago, Georgetown-Matches
UPenn-SLIGHT Reach, not big though
Pomona-Match
Claremont McKenna-Safety
Tulane-Match
NYU-Match with lotta financial aid cause they dig high SAT's

Yeah, I know how much easier the AMC12 is than the AIME. I took them, remember? :P I took the AMC12B in late Februray; I didn't take the AMC12A because I wasn't in town. Sorry to take offense, but I get that every single time I post on CC. :P

I agree that Penn would be harder for me to get in to because my GPA at Stanford >>>> my GPA at Penn, but I don't think I(nor anyone)'m a match at Stanford...

Well, I feel that Standford has a very comfortably (obviously not lock) chance of accepting you. At least in the general scheme of things for Stanford.
