Chances at these journalism schools

Hi there. I'm currently a junior at a public, suburban high school in Illinois. I was just wondering if I could get some insight about what my possible chances are at some top journalism schools.

My GPA is 4.25 weighted (I'm not sure about unweighted, but I've taken pretty much only honors or AP courses since freshman year). Currently I'm in 3 AP classes (Native Speakers Spanish 4, US History and Calculus) and am taking two more next year (AP Psychology and AP Spanish 5). In addition to the APs, right now I'm taking Advanced Journalism Honors, 3 English Honors (no AP for juniors at my school, otherwise I would be in it) and Physics Honors. I'm also Hispanic, which explains the native speakers Spanish course.

I played soccer for ten years, have run since fourth grade (all-conference cross country for three years now, and am a captain next year). I'm also a member of the community service club at my school and am possibly joining photography club soon. I write for the school newspaper as well. I've won several writing contests over the years.

I haven't yet taken the ACT or SAT but another standardized test I took this year forecasted my ACT score to be somewhere between 31 and 35.

I've been working at a neighborhood deli for two years now. Both my parents are professors (one at DePaul, one at Northwestern). I'm also planning on applying to Northwestern--does anyone know if my father's position at Northwestern would affect my chances of admission?

Anyway, here's the whole list of schools I'm most likely applying to:

-University of Southern California
-University of Colorado-Boulder (not a great school overall but good journalism program)
-Arizona State University (see above)
-Emory University (great school, but I haven't heard much about their journalism school...anyone have any info?)
-University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill
-New York University
-Syracuse University (stellar journalism program)
-University of Wisconsin--Madison
-University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign
-Northwestern University
-University of Missouri--Columbia (reportedly the best journalism school in the world, so I'm sure the applicant pool will include some tough competition).

Thanks!

Please? Anyone?

I can't give specifics, but your GPA is strong, your course load is good, and you don't seem to have too many reaches. Overall, you seem to have a good chance of getting into their programs, especially if you show your interest in journalism (make sure you join the school newspaper, etc.).

Oh, and usually legacy helps, especially at the top colleges, but it only provides a minute boost. You need to have good grades, etc. regardless of legacy to get in.

You have a very good application. Your course load is tough, and you have done well in those classes; however, it would really help you to get closer to 35 on the ACT than a 31. The fact that you won several writing contests will really help you when applying to these schools as a journalism major. You have a good shot at all of these schools.

The school that I would really recommend to you is UNC-Chapel Hill, because it has a fantastic journalism program, and is a great environment. I am applying there as an in-state student, and I would rather go there than anywhere else in the world (even Ivy-league schools, or MIT). Overall, though, you should be good for at least one of these schools. Good luck!

You'd be a great candidate for Northwestern. Make sure to look into that school because it has one of the best journalism programs in the country. So pick the top schools you're thinking about and show interest by touring / interviewing.

^one of her parents are a Proffesor there so i believe she wouldve been on campus b4.. and the professor thing might help

Thanks to everyone who gave some input. Right now I really like USC, UNC, NYU and Emory, so we'll see how it goes.
