Hi,
I am a senior from Connecticut and some of the schools I am looking at for Early Decision are Tufts, Wesleyan, and Bates. My ACT is a 33 (36 English, 35 Reading, 31 in Math and Science) and my weighted GPA is around a 4.2, but my school does not calculate GPA or class rank. I have taken 6 AP classes (3 as a junior, 3 this year). Last year I took AB Calculus (5), AP US History (4), and AP English (5). This year I am taking BC Calculus, AP Biology, and AP Spanish. I plan to go premed or something related to biochemistry or psychology. Some of my extracurriculars include being a chair of Model UN, receiving my EMT and CPR certifications through a summer course, managing sports teams at school, investment club, and leading a club that works with admissions on school tours. I have around 250-300 community service hours through a service trip and volunteer work at a nursing home. What is the chance that I get into these three schools specifically and is it worth going Early Decision to any of them?
Thanks so much in advance for any responses!
Welcome to College Confidential, @RC1001!
First of all, congratulations on your excellent achievements during high school!
No one on College Confidential has a crystal ball to tell you what admissions officers will decide about your full application in comparison to those of the other applicants. Holistic college admissions have no guarantees. That is the problem with chance threads!
That said, clearly your statistics make you a solid candidate at each of the three colleges, and ED confers a slight edge. So, if the net price calculators yield an estimated family contribution that looks okay to your parents, you might want to apply ED to your favorite of these. But do not apply ED to any college unless you are confident you will be happy to attend if you are accepted, and would have no regrets about not waiting to hear from another college.
Consider simultaneously applying early action or rolling admissions to a safety school, so that you will be likely to have an admissions offer to ease the blow if you get deferred or rejected from your early decision choice.
@TheGreyKing Thanks so much for the response. It is good to hear that I am a solid candidate for all three. My number one is Tufts at the moment but I plan to visit Bates next weekend. Thanks again for the info and I look forward to making my decision!
