Chances at top schools- Columbia, Harvard, Duke, etc

all the honors societies are sad. NHS is sad. the foreign language HSs are sadder. founding an HS isn't exactly something heroic, i don't think. you will think it is ridiculous as people start to found Biology HS, USH HS, Precalc HS, Spelling HS, or homework HS.

I don't know about your HS, but at my S's HS, NHS is a lot of work and takes up lots of time. Members have to put in tons of community service hours and chair charity projects to keep their membership active.

please define a lot of work?

Like I was saying . . . lots of community service hours and chairing charity projects. Every day after school and before football practice during season, my son tutors kids in his class and on the football team. Off season, after conditioning, he travels 15 miles one way to tutor poor children 3-4 days a week. He does Habitat for Humanity and Harry Chapin food bank on weekends. And these hours must be signed off on by a teacher or the adults on the projects.

I don't remember how many service hours they have to log in every quarter, but it is substantial. Brandon probably puts in 35-40 a quarter during football season, and double that off season.
