chances at top schools with 2 B's Junior Yr

they were actually in math and science. However I got a 93 and 96 respectively on the final. These classes were very hard and only 4 kids got in the 90s. Doesnt the 800 2c make up? Also If I get a 750+ chem, would this show the admissions people that the classes were hard and I did learn?

Totally. That kind of SAT II score will show them you know what you're doing. My physics teacher was AMAZING, but the toughest grader on earth. Our class average was literally an F before the admin made him curve it an entire letter grade. Before the curve, I had a C. I felt damn lucky to escape with a B at the end. No one got an A. But I did well on my IB exam, so I'm hoping that'll show 'em.

The information you're offering isn't nearly enough to gauge what your chances are. Do you have ECs? Awards? What exactly IS your GPA? Your SAT scores? GPA is just one factor in the entire admissions process.

Why do people continue to believe that high SAT scores can make up for low classmarks???

do you think my classmarks are really that low IHATESAT? I do take the hardest courseload

omg..you guys are scaring me. I am a rising junior and I already have 5 B+'s. Is that really bad??

um, i'm a rising senior, and i have like 11 assorted b's including b-'s but pretty good SAT scores. i'm really really scared now.

sigh.. you guys have absolutely NO clue what you are talking about, and to say that it infuriates me is an understatement.

my friend failed a freshman class, got consistent B's in the hardest courseload offered in our (moderately competitive) public school, destroyed first semester senior year (straight A's in all APs) and got into cornell ED - and it's not like he had a huge hook or anything.

it is a complete falsehood that you are "out of the running" of ivy league schools just because you have a few Bs, or Cs.

was this kid an urm, athlete, or legacy?

as I said, no "hook". not a urm (asian), not a legacy (first generation), but fine, an athlete, but wasn't a captain or anything like that.

but i do know that he had an incredible essay.

those go a long way.

can you please post his profile or w/e so I can get a clearer idea? Like his test scores, gpa, and ecs?

i don't know his entire profile. i don't even know his sat scores - but from what i read here, sat scores apparently can't make up for bad grades, so it won't be worth posting anyways. his ECs were not spectacular from what i know, and he had an abysmal gpa (probably low 3s).

Gulliver101, I'm not saying that your marks are bad, in fact, I believe that it is only human to get a few b's, and college adcoms know that. I think, as long as you DON'T get anything lower than a B, then you will be a VERY competitive applicant at the upper tier colleges. Taking the SAT II in a particular subject, especially in a class which you only got a "B" in anyway, should pretty easily be masked if you do well on the SAT II. However, (which does not pertain to this particular case), there are some people on this forum who believe that really high SAT II scores will make up for Cs and Ds, and that is what I ment on my prior post.
