Really good recs, a good essay about my father who passed away last year...

Could someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me??? I really would just like a fair assessment of my chances at William and Mary, U Notre Dame, Kenyon, URichmond, Furman, and Davidson.....THANK YOU.

I WILL BAKE YOU COOKIES IF YOU REPLY...or maybe it'll be a karma thing where if you do a good thing a good thing will happen to you! So, please reply! Thank you!

Thank you in advance!
:)

okay, here goes....

SAT are good for all those schools, good ECs, but I see a lack of APs and low GPA. Don't mean to sound crass, but essays on death/loss tend to be pretty cliche in general. What is you class rank, is your school tough or lacking APs (trying put GPA and courseload in perspective)? I think ND and Davidson and Kenyon may may be slight reaches (only b/c of GPA), since usually 60%+ have 3.7 gpas or above. Rest look fine. Oh, and I don't beieve in Karma, so I'd appreciate those cookies. Snail mail is fine.

your SATs are good for ND but possibly not good enough for EA... you will prob get deferred. your GPA is pretty low but if your essays and recs are really good then you should have a decent chance even still. no karma for me, either. thanks anyways though hah

wm is prob a reach since your are out of state applicant and ur gpa is low. i would try it nonetheless. not familiar w ND tho

hello, and thank you for responding.....yay :)
My school is really tough- all girls school and most difficult to get into/attend in city (Chattanooga), so we don't rank...

yeah i know i've got a low gpa- if i could do it all over again i would work a little harder, but my extracurriculars take up way a lot of time- hardcore with the honor council president, lacrosse, and climbing- no time for sleep...argh oh well.

and no it's not crass to think the essay about my father would be cliche, but i thought about it a long time and made it very honest- with an opener of "I killed my father" it will hopefully bring attention to the struggles i had last year without having a pity-fest. I spoke with 4 seperate english teachers about it and there was a general consensus that it didn't sound like i was begging for pity.

i'll send you some metaphorical cookies, karl, if that's ok. i'm channeling them to you through the air...

Metaphorical cookies are ok, but they don't relieve the figurativical (is that a word...j/k, being facetious) pang in Karl's stomach (oops, I referred to myself in third person). If you have the time, drive a fresh batch of chocolate chippies down here to Podunk, Iowa =). And an essay about how you killed your father, now that is interesting!

but i'm not a felon, i swear...see here's the deal- he died of a berry aneurism, which can be, in certain cases, because of increased blood pressure. i thought that the tiff we had the night before his sudden death caused the aneurism increase in blood pressure, but i didn't tell anyone...guilty conscience...then i found out the real causes...weight off the shoulders, etc...it's narrative 1st person, so it's kind of interesting, i think at least.

oh yes i'm on my way up to iowa right now...it's only a...hm..13 hr car ride from podunk, tennessee, i'm sure... :)

this raises another serious question- how will i keep the cookies fresh? hm. maybe these metaphorical cookies are sounding better and better?

mb,

metaphorical cookies will be fine, I was just BSing you b/c I don't want to start my homework. Ahhhhhh! Homework! But grades don't mater anymore! Yes! But really, I have a cookie ingredients and a stove (yaaaaaay), so you can just come here and bake them.

ok just a question for any and all out there- i was thinking about applying to wake and/or uva...any hope in applying there or should i just do something more useful with my time?

your SATS and Activities are in the ballpark for UVA, but I'm a little weary of your GPA and Awards, especially if you're out of state. It couldn't hurt to give it a try though, becuase your SAT scores are very good. I only got a 1920 on mine and I got in ED. Plus, if your essays are good, that will definitely help you win them over.
