What are my chances at UCB and UCLA?
And I'm not sure what major I want to do, and I think that its important for the UCs is it not?
I like a lot of subjects, but math and science are my favorite. I'm thinking of either going into finance or something in biological research. Any majoring advice? Thanks

UCB-low reach
UCLA- high match

Good luck and chance back please?

Sorry don’t know much about duke.

I’d recommend calculating your UC GPA first before asking for your chances. The UC GPAs are slightly different from the ordinary ones.

UCB: match
UCLA: match

Both are matches. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in both. The only thing is that your ECs aren’t crazy, but your scores and GPA are above what both schools are asking for. Please chance me back! We have some similar credentials and ECs. [What Are My Chances? - College Confidential](Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums)

Match-High Match both. Honestly, I would lean towards match both.

Your weighted GPA is ridiculous. 4.9? I didn’t think that’s possible. I know a couple prodigy level students who had 4.8 and 4.7s that got into all Ivy’s/dream colleges. Furthermore you have a perfect UW GPA. Honestly, based off this fact, you should be a shoo-in. UC’s LOVE high weighted and unweighted GPA’s and yours are the best I’ve ever seen.

Your SAT is about average, and your ACT’s are towards the upper end of the spectrum. I would say that that’s more than enough with your GPA.

You have respectable EC’s (although your clubs are a bit over the place, I don’t think it makes a difference)

Finally, you have taken a lot of AP classes. I’m guessing you are taking the most rigorous schedule possible? Then you’re an ideal student for UC’s.

Like I said, I would probably say match both. GPA and rigor of high school classes are what UC’s look for the most. You have average or above average test scores, decent EC’s, and most likely an above average essay.

I used my 10th and 11th grade classes and my UC GPA is a 4.7273. I only had honors classes and APs. The only non-honors classes were Spanish 2,3 and 4.

10th grade academic courses (ap chem, ap world history, Spanish 3, pre calc honors, English 10 honors) note that English 10 honors and Spanish 3 are not a UC approved honors

11th grade academic courses (ap us history, ap calc BC, ap physics c, ap lang, Spanish 4, ap psych) note that Spanish 4 is not a UC approved honors, even though we did the same work as the ap soanish students but whatever

I forgot to say that my counselor gave me a list of my current classes and grade for an interview and it said I was rank 1.

I do have the hardest possible classes. Second place (he is one of my friends) did not take ap art history because otherwise are GPAs are the same.

Not that it matters much with your amazing GPA, but I am pretty sure UC does not recognize any honors courses (whether or not UC approved) as weighted for 10th grade and all honors/AP courses are capped at 8 semesters of weighted grades. Are you a CA resident? you should have an excellent shot at both campuses.

The UCs do recognize Honors Courses, but only certain ones. However, they calculate GPA based solely on A-G courses from the 10th and 11th grades, and cap the amount of additional points from APs (8) and approved honors (3).

From the UC web site:

Acceptable honors-level courses are specialized, advanced, collegiate-level courses designed for 11th- and 12th-graders who have already completed foundation work in the subject area. Ninth- and 10th-grade-level high school courses that schools might designate as “honors” do not meet the UC honors-level requirement and therefore are not granted special “honors” credit by the University.

These rules apply to “Other” honors courses, ie, not AP or IB.

[University of California - Honors courses](http://www.ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/honors/)

Where do you get the 8 and 3 for capping?

Honors classes do count for UC’s only certain ones though. UC GPA only goes as far as a 4.5

I believe the capped GPA goes to 4.5 but when I calculated my UC GPA I used the only approved honors course (pre calc) and all of my APs. So I believe my uncapped UC GPA is 4.7272…

I am a California resident, and as for the UCs, I need to send all scores correct? Also, awaiting math II, us history, and bio M subject tests.

Bumpity bump bump

Any opinions? Should I list the last two? I’m just about to turn in my app? Percentage chance?

I also got my SAT IIs back. 760 for Math II. 760 for Bio M. 780 for U.S. history.

Think you have a great chance:)

I require some help
I am Indian student looking forward for undergraduate studies in USA and Singapore. I want to major in Computer-Sciences. I am confused as I am unable to decide which university to apply for ?

MY SAT-I was not as good as SAT-II.
SAT-I in January CR:450 W:470 M:800 TOTAL=1720
SAT-I in May CR:480 W:560 M:740 TOTAL=1780
SAT-I IN June CR:490 W:610 M:750 TOTAL=1850
SAT-Highest with all 3 sittings CR:490 W:610 M:800 TOTAL=1900

SAT-II in first sitting in November
Maths Level 2 : 800 Physics : 800 Chemistry : 800

I obtained 9.6 cgpa off 10.0 in 10th grade. I am sure to secure above 90% in Indian 12 standard CBSE exams.

I am also good chess player who has won gold-medals at district level competitions and participation at state and national level competitions
I was selected Best-Chess player and captain of school’s under-19 chess team.
I have won MS-PowerPoint presentation competitions at inter-house, inter-school and tri-city level competitions
I was selected Best-computer wizard of the school and the house.
I have been student body head of school newsletter publishing department and reported directly to vice-principal and house mistress.

Now, the problem I am facing is that I dont know which colleges/universities I should apply to. With perfect scores in SAT-II some of my friends told me to apply to elite colleges like Ivy league, but I think they are crazy. Some people say with 1850/1900 in SAT-I you are not going to get into even good universities like UCSD and Ohio State university what to talk about Ivy league.

Please tell me which colleges should i apply to and please do rate my chances in the following

UCLA
UCSD
UC Berkeley
Georgia Tech

DREAM CHANCES

Stanford University
IVY LEAGUE

I’m not exactly sure how to do this, but I think you should post this in its own thread and perhaps international students…can someone help?

stats look good for both schools
good luck on the essays, but looks about right for both UCB and UCLA
