Chances at UChicago, Northwester, and Stanford

Well, Junior year finished, and I obviously didn't try as hard as I should have once again.

school uses blocking, and no the school isn't difficult. I'm incredibly lazy.

GPA 9-11: 3.68W(awful weighing system: 4.333 for an A in an AP)
GPA 10-11: 3.938W(again, lol)
Freshmen:3.196UW(no AP, 1 Honor)

Sophomore:3.791(no AP, no Honor)[1Ap and 1 Honor was offered]

Junior: most AP anyone took
English 3: A/A-
*Pre AP Physics B: A/A
*AP US History: B+/B/A-
*Pre AP Calc AB: A/A
*AP Biology: A/A
*AP Statistics: A/A
Speech III: A
Spanish: A/A

*:Weighed course, A=4.333 A-=4.0 B+=3.667, etc

Class Rank: at the moment, probably top 12%. I'll hopefully get to the 10% after the first semester of senior year(based off of an assumption that I won't be lazy...)

ACT: 34
SAT: 2300
SAT II: 790US, 770 Biology, 800 Math IIC
PSAT 220

AP Tests: At least a 4 on Bio and US(only took those)

ECs:
*Speech and Debate 3 Years LD Debate, nats qualifier
*Medical Club 3 Years
*AIME (like it means anything, right?)
*Stanford Debate Camp - Advanced Seminar
*Attending JSA Georgetown Session - Advanced program
[If I like JSA, I'll probably start a JSA chapter at my school...]
*NHS 3 years
*Internship at a local Law firm

My ECs reflect interest in politics, while my grades reflect interest in math & science... @_@

Schools:
Stanford, just cause I love it.(No chance in hell, eh? haha)
UChicago
Northwestern
Columbia
Emory
Notre Dame
Dartmouth
URochester
NYU

Should I even be looking at these schools, haha? Drop to tier 2 possibly?
Getting in to any of these schools is enough... haha

Stanford, just cause I love it.(No chance in hell, eh? haha) - sorry, but I you're correct =(
UChicago - reach
Northwestern - reach
Columbia - reach
Emory - reach
Dartmouth - reach
NYU - match

You've got very good standardized tests, but your rank ought to be in the top 5% for most top 25 schools and top 10% for most top 25-50 schools.

Hmm.. even with upward trend & high ACT/SAT/AP all are reaches? Sucks. Any recommendations/further chances? Chicago says its class has 79% of them in the top 10%, along with NU being at 82%... does that not matter? Or does thatj ust mean the other 21 and 18 percents respectively are the unranked? That would be awfully misleading on USNWR's behalf.

You've definitely got a chance at all those schools (except maybe Stanford). Your EC's are just a tidbit weak (lack of leadership). I still say apply to all of them anyway.

EC's and class rank aren't too great. Still think with good essays you will get in to NYU, Emory, URochester, Notre Dame, and at least one other on that list.

Bump, do I have a [good] chance at UofC, NU, Columbia, or Dartmouth?

I estimate my GPA next year as I apply to be 3.75W 9-12, and my rank to be in the 10%

I'm curious about the lack of honors classes. Are they not offered? You said something about only 1 being offered per year I think, and I don't understand. I thought almost every school had a good amount of honors classes? I mean, I took 10 honors classes just in ninth and tenth grade.

Like everyone else, I think your GPA/class rank (perhaps even if you do get into the top 10%) and a lack of solid ECs are major areas of concern. I know Chicago puts more emphasis on your GPA than your test scores because they want students who are genuinely interested in learning. Since Columbia is so extremely competitive I think your shot there isn't very likely, and though I'm not terribly familiar with Dartmouth's admissions, I know it's highly selective and therefore unlikely as well. Most colleges want someone with a set passion, and your current record doesn't really show one.

I think you MUST have an essay that describes who you are and what your ambitions are, but in a unique way (esp. for Chicago). You can't afford to be cliche and traditional. You could also work on more direction and leadership in your ECs.
