Chances at: UCLA, USC, NYU

I'm only a junior in high school right now so these are my grades and everything all the way up to 1st semester of 11th grade, but I still want to know what my chances would be to see if there's any way I can bump myself up to be closer. I did terrible freshmen year and first semester of my sophomore year because of laziness and mental disorders I had, so I hope that explains why some things are so low. If you have any suggestions of colleges that may fit me or any way I'll be able to increase my chances of getting in (since I've still about a year left and these may be out of reach as of now) that would be helpful.

major: Business Administration/Management with minor in film (especially looking at USC's joint program); also visited London one summer so I hope to be able to go there for study abroad

Unweighted GPA: 3.6
weighted GPA: 3.8
rank: 40/600
(these are cumulative, everything from beginning of freshman year to now)

SAT: (I take this in a couple months but based off my PSAT, I expect to get 2100+)
SAT Subject Tests: expect to take Math Level II and Physics
ACT: not taking it

APs:
- AP Euro History in 10th grade (A grade both semesters)
- 4 AP classes 11th grade (French, English Language, Physics, US history)
- plan to take 4 in 12th grade (Statistics, Calculus BC, Gov/Econ, English Literature)

ECs:
(not listing everything super detailed just for privacy reasons but I'll answer anything if you message me)
- marching/concert band (9th grade)
- ASB (all 4 years, had leadership positions 10th and 11th grade and expect to run for senior class pres.)
- french club (9-11th; officer position in 11th grade, hopefully president next year)
- NHS (11th-12th)
- CSF (11th-12th)
- tennis
- I've got about 6 other clubs I am/was involved in but they're not as big as the ones I listed above and I didn't have a leadership position

Awards/Recognition:
- 3 awards for national history day (I made a documentary)
- 1 award in band

Recs:
-I've already had a couple written for internships I previously applied for so I'm sure I'll be able to get more

Essays:
-been told they're good but not outstanding

Misc:
- I am ahead of the needed amount of credits because I've taken 4 extra classes and plan to take 2 extras next year
- attended a few leadership conferences
- california resident
- over 150+ hours of community service
- middle eastern/asian (bilingual + I can read arabic)

Your GPA is a little bit low so if you raise that this year and get a 2000+ on your SAT then id say you have a good chance. Your ECs aren’t bad either.

My thread (chance pls): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke.html#latest</a></p>

PSAT doesn’t mean jack, I know it may be the only test data available right now, but don’t use it an an indicator.
I would really work the middle eastern thing, especially if you are a muslim, that is unique. The rest of your application is not unique.

Mandalorian- Yes, I am Muslim, thanks for the input.

Oh by the way my UW and W GPA are including my freshman grades! without them it’d be
W: 3.95
UW: 3.55

If you write a good essay about your difficulties, you should be able to get into 2 out of 3 no problem. Your ECs are fairly regular for UCLA and grades aren’t outstanding. I suggest participating a little more; find another interest; start your own program/club.

The huge upward trend in your grades is impressive. As for the extra-curricular activities, I think they are kind of scattered. I would focus on your SAT score because PSAT doesn’t mean that much. A good score would be 2200+.

UCLA: match
NYU: match
USC: reach

If you applied to their business schools then all would be high matches

Chance back please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1617746-chance-for-ivy-s-northwestern-duke-michigan-stanford-and-more-will-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

You’re such a good candidate for all 3 schools! What state do you live in? Being in state may make a difference for UCLA and surprisingly enough USC. USC gets so many instate applicants that sometimes they are held to higher standards.

UCLA- Match/Reach. You’re a match because you’re an ideal candidate. But, you’re also a reach because at least 10k of their 90k applicants will have just as good statistics as you.

USC- Match. But, it’s by no means a ‘safety.’ People applying to Marshall are held to especially high standards. If you are looking for more assurance for acceptance apply to arts & sciences. Be sure to apply before Jan. to be considered for merit scholarships. That being said, very few people receive them and there’s quite a price tag on this school.

NYU- Match. If your SAT is a 2000+ and you can slightly raise your GPA you will most likely be accepted. Keep in mind that very few people here get scholarships too. I’ve heard of amazing students getting only 9k per year, which doesn’t even begin to make a dent in the $60k+. Applying to Stern, however, makes admission extra hard. But, transfering into stern from CAS is also difficult. So, weigh your options and maybe talk to your guidance counselor about that.

Other schools you may want to consider:
U of Michigan - Business school is called Ross, there’s an early admit program for freshman that is very selective
UPenn - Def a reach, but who wouldn’t want to go to Wharton? If this becomes a priority you must apply ED
Emory - Can’t remember the name of the business school off the top of my head but its well known and respected. They have EDI and EDII.
U of Indiana, Bloomington - This is a safety school. Kelley business school is surprisingly well known and generally highly ranked.
