bump :] 10char

UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCSB- UCLA and Berkley are definitely matches UCSD and UCSB seem like safeties

CMU - match
Cornell- low to mid reach
Brown- low reach to mid reach (depends on whether you love brown or not and passionate about studying there!)

I would drop UCSB and UCSD , you have much more caliber than that.

That business stuff is awesome. Brown and CMU SCS are the toughest schools on your list, but you never know.

So…
UCs are safeties except UCLA match, UCB high match
CMU IS - match
CMU SCS - reach
Cornell - low reach
Brown - too hard to say-it’s really all about the essays

BTW, consider trying to add some math or computer science awards to your resume.

Academics are weak, especially for those top schools. Though, your ECs are great. Work on letting them shine through your essay. But it does not bode well if, not only did you not take APs, you did not even do well in the honors. Course rigor/ the transcript is a priority for top schools and you fall pretty short. Also, you might want to consider retaking SAT to aim for 2300+. Your current score doesn’t make you too competitive. Brown is reach, mainly b/c of academics, but if you let your ECs shine through, it might be better. Cornell still reach cuz academics. UCs except UCB(LA) should be fine. CMU slight reach.

Thanks guys ^^; This thread just gave me a lot more hope haha

dblazer - Yea I know  The good news is I’ve gotten As in all the science classes (including ap chem, where there’s only 2 As in the entire class) and my math grades have been As lately (got Bs last year because of a crazy teacher…kids who made it to usamo ended up with Bs). It’s mainly spanish and english that’s killing my gpa… but I did well on those this year :)

Hmmm I’ve taken the most rigorous coursework possible in our school up until this year, when the counsellor messed up and didn’t stick me in ap english and apush. I’m hoping to try to make myself out to be a math and science genius :D

Retaking the SAT…i was originally going to do so, but my parents wouldn’t let me…=/ . I think it’s a bit late now because I forgot all my sat grammar haha! I’m a bit busy this summer too so that’s a no go

Thanks again everyone  Would applying ED to cmu / cornell raise my chances? I’m a bit stuck on which to apply ED to

Definitely ED at Cornell or CMU if you’re comfortable with the commitment. Your chance at CMU IS and Cornell is solid.

CMU SCS is the hardest school you’re applying to, but you still have a shot.

Great ECs. Use that to your advantage and write great essays. I say Cornell ED is a good shot.

Wow, what business did you start? Earned 5 figures? How and when did you start it?

In my opinion:

All UCs except Berkeley and UCLA - Safety
Berkeley, UCLA - Match
CMU, Cornell - Low-mid reach; really let your personality and interests shine through in your essays and I think you’ve got a good shot!
Brown - unpredictable. Mid-reach?

Thanks guys :)

Hmm my businesses are generally related to internet marketing. They are all online businesses or websites  I earn money from selling products, ads, memberships, etc.

I started turning my sites for profit sometime sophomore year. Before that, I was creating startups and fun websites ^^;
