Chances at UCSD

I posted this on the UCSD board, but didn't get as many replies as I had wanted, so...

I will be a senior next year and I wanted to know my chances of getting in to UCSD. Of course. heh.

SAT I: 1780. I know it's low. I intend on taking it again in October. (I'm hoping to score above a 1900).
SAT IIs:
Math 2: 600
US History: 670
Spanish: 710

UC GPA: 3.866
This was my cummulative GPA after my first semester of junior year. Second semester I earned a 4.66 (with classes fulfilling the "a-g" requirements, of course). I'm not entirely sure how that will affect my UC GPA. Also, I was notified that I may qualify for ELC. I'm pretty sure I'm in the top 40 (NOT percentage wise...) in a class of 750 (I will know for sure when I see my transcript in a few weeks).

I should also mention that I had extremely mediocre grades freshman year and didn't actually excel until my sophomore year.

I've taken 4 AP courses, but 5 AP exams
English Language - 3
US History - 4
Spanish - 5
Psychology - 3 (I didn't take the course for this)
European History - 1 (cough)

I'm the vice president of the environmental club in my school, I am also an active member in CSF and GSA. I volunteer at the local library and community hospital, so I should have a bit over 130 hours of community service.

Based on the information given, I want to know my chances of getting accepted to UCSD. I know nothing on here is outstanding, but I would still like to know. Oh, and I live in California.

oh, and I guess my transcript might help...

10th grade
English 2H – A/A
Biology – A-/A
Algebra 2 – C/A
AP Euro Hist – B/B
Exploring Music – A+/*

Only have 5 classes because the sixth was PE, and since UC doesn’t include that in the cumulative GPA, I left it out.
*I took computer foundations second semester. Not included in GPA.

Summer: Took Chemistry at the community college; earned a B

11th grade
AP English Language – A+/A+
AP US History – A-/A
Physiology – A+/A
Psychology/Sociology – A+/A+ (Are these classes included in my GPA…? I’m not sure)
Pre-Calculus Honors – B/A
Spanish NS3/AP Spanish 4 – A/A (It’s essentially two years of Spanish in one. I took the first semester of sophomore level Spanish, and the second semester I took junior level Spanish. I took the freshman level of Spanish freshman year…)

This summer: Physical Science Concepts at the community college (I got a D in the Honors class freshman year, so I’m taking it again…)

For next year, my predicted schedule is…

AP English Literature
AP Government/Economics
AP Calculus AB
AP Spanish Literature
Physics (might take AP, not sure yet).
Art
And I plan to take Academic Decathlon (it’s considered a class at my school).

where's the UCSD forum?

link?

btw, i think it may be a slight reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=76525

bump...

more insight, please?

Hmm i didnt calculate your GPA...but it seems that it's a little bit higher than a 3.866..but i'm not sure..I would say UCSD is a slight reach for you...your history and spanish sat II scores are very strong. I think if you get a 1900+ and write a great essay UCSD may be in your reach! I hope you get in though!!! I'm in the same situation as you...so G/L and tell me how it goes in the spring!

I think SD is a reach because both your GPA and SATs are below their average.

UCSD:Slight Reach

Thanks to all who replied.

So if I improve my SAT scores to 1900+, I will have a much better chance? Also, what are my chances to the other, lower-tier UCs?

I just re-calculated my weighted GPA, I'm not sure if it's set exactly to UC standards, but it's a 4.136

if your UC Weighted GPA is a 4.136 your a match for UCSD:)

Maybe not quite a match, but close to it. A SAT score of around 1900 would make it a match, as the GPA + SATII is solid.
