Chances at UGA (in state)

To the OP…it is far easier to give one advice if the person seeking the advice is either consistent in their information OR gives the reasons for an ever evolving list of schools. It is VERY normal to have a change of heart regarding college choices at this point in the game.

As with Yale, UVA and all the others…apply to UGA and when you get a decision in the mail from them, you will KNOW if you have been accepted or not. Everything else is speculation.

I think your chances at UGA are far better than at UVA or Yale…but you can’t get accepted if you don’t apply.

In the meantime…harassing other posters is against the terms of service for this site and I hope all posters remember that…and NO I’m not a moderator!

well I picked my final three schools and I turned in my application for two of them

UGA (turned in application)
Syracuse (turned in application)

Now the transcripts need to get there along with the counselor forms.

As for the final school, I am deciding between Harvard, Princeton, Cornell and Brown. Really need to narrow that list down.

As for my stats, I sat down with my guidance counselor yesterday (they did weighted class ranks this week).

GPA = 3.5
Took the SAT yesterday
When they did the weighted class rank I was at the the top 25 percent of my class (because I took more APs and did good in them as opposed to other students who made ALL A’s by taking non AP classes).

She also mentioned that I should mention my awards in the essay contests, I asked her about it because I thought ECs counted as things you did after school and during school, not things you did over the summer and outside of school (like participate in a food drive or win some essay contests).

I mentioned my essay win in the Bantam Classic Essay competition and the best part (already told thumper this), a congressman wants to write me a letter of recommendation to Yale University =D!

Anyways I always dream big, its in my nature. So now I need to finalize my choice for the other Ivy.

PS: Guidance counselor told me it was a bad decision by me to pick UVA, it is very competitive out of state and I would have been better off taking back my application and applying to another Ivy. I can’t help it. I LOVE VIRGINIA (great state).

Also

I got letters from Mercer and Armstrong Atlantic, I have been accepted.

Guidance counselor told me that I am an exceptional student and that I should apply to another Ivy because I need to get over my low self esteem. Anyways, peace out, this what I wanted to tell you guys.

How are you in the top half with a 3.2 Gpa, I have 83 avg. and I’m in bottom 50 so I don’t think thats a good high school.

You should be in at all xcept BC.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/822718-help-average-person-trim-down-their-list-schools.html</a></p>

“How are you in the top half with a 3.2 Gpa, I have 83 avg. and I’m in bottom 50 so I don’t think thats a good high school.”

3.2 = HOPE GPA and GPA in core classes (some AP classes were not counted).
3.5 = OVERALL GPA
weighted GPA = above 4.0 (used to do class ranks)

anyways I may as well mention this now, the people on this site are inclined to base everything off of a number rather than look at a person’s past, like the past poster who said I would wash out at Yale, nobody bothered to look at my perfect GPA during my junior year at all but everyone wanted to look for the past and not look beyond the number

If you want to help me, look beyond the number. Oh and a student from my list (who was accepted into Yale two years ago) talked to me this past week and told me I have a chance of getting in. I mean students change, we were all kids once and in western society life can get hard, especially if you have a family that moves around a lot and especially if you get picked on because of your skin Color.

To the past poster, I enjoyed my life before I came to GA. I plan on getting that type of life back but thanks for being friendly with me.

As for fallen chemist: Yea, I am a twit and an arrogant moron, oh how dare I am high.

As for right now, I think I have a shot and I believe I will make it in. When I do, I plan on putting in as much work as possible so I can excel there.

What people on here fail to acknowledge is that not all students are the same. Some student have a rougher life than others, a girl going to a private school in New Jersey has an easier life than a kid like me going to a magnet school in small town GA. I really did not have many opportunities in my lifetime but no time to whine.

I need to finalize my choice of a second Ivy League school, and feel free to condemn me for it, not gonna change my decision.

To thumper and JYM, thanks for being helpful.

You have a good chance. Just make sure you write some insightful essays and make sure you spend some time on those ECs. Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816473-chance-aa-female-elite-schools-updated-stats.html</a> <–Include Yale also!

You said you could apply to 8. You said you had applied to James Madison, UVA, Yale, Armstrong Atlantic, Augusta State, UGA, Syracuse and Mercer (said you were accepted to Mercer and Armstrong). That’s 8 schools. None left, unless you meant you were accepted at Armstrong and Augusta St, not Mercer (since you said Macon seemed boring).

Naw, Augusta st did not count because that was a back up school if everything else goes wrong, basically it was behind a safety school.

Anyways, I need to make my final pick.

Based on past posts, thats … well… hard to believe.
In this thread alone you said you would LOVE to go to OSU, and express strong interest in UMass Amherst (which you seem to think is a reach- its not) and Beloit. If you really want to go to one of these, apply to one of these. They might even throw some money at you to boot. Thank heavens application deadlines are rapidly approaching.

A person came to our school a short while ago and told me to apply to Mercer, I met the person and he said if I apply I am in. As for Augusta St, a representative from that school told me they would be more than happy to have me there and that I should at least apply.

Mercer even emailed me so I decided to apply there anyways just for the heck of it.

As for Ohio State, I already turned in my applications for that. Mercer and Augusta were not on my list.

Anyways, time for my final college, it is Cornell (lowest out of all the Ivies in terms of acceptance rates).

Is Cornell where you really want to go, or are you just shopping for an ivy? (no need to answer-- just a rhetorical question). Waste of time to apply to a bunch of safeties you have no desire to go to. If you had one instate safety acceptance in your pocket, then IMO you should have gone after other schools you wanted to attend (not ones that you didn’t or ones that happen to be ivys.) Cornell is a fine school, but I dont believe its too generous with $$. But whatever. If you didnt want to stay in GA, then applying to 4 GA schools when you had one, inexpensive safety acceptance was overkill, especially if there is a limit to the # of applications you can send . But its a done deal, or about to be.

I discovered that not all of GA is as bad as the town I live in. Also, as I said the other two schools came for me (Mercer, Armstrong and Augusta St) so I applied because they offered me some scholarships.

I picked Cornell because it is in NY and not as rough as Columbia in terms of admissions.

Well you will know the results on Apr 1.
