Chances at UMich, Duke, or Hopkins?

I'm an Asian female from Michigan who wants to do biomedical engineering.
I'm looking at UMich, Duke, Johns Hopkins, and not sure about others.

Test scores:
ACT - 31 (E31, M34, R30, S27) and another 31 (E36, M33, R31, S25) (will retake in the fall)
SAT – 2230 (CR720, M740, W770) (will retake to raise math score)
PSAT – 209 (probably National Merit commended)
AP US History – 4

Will take before I apply to college this fall:
SAT Math IIC – probably low 700s
AP Macroeconomics – probably 4 or 5
AP Microeconomics – probably 3 or 4
AP English Language – probably 4 or 5
Also SAT2 Physics and SAT2 Bio

My schedule is pretty challenging for my school…
Bio 2: (Genetics, Bacteriology, Embryology), AP Economics (Macro and Micro), Physics 1, Honors Precalc, Spanish 4, AP English Lang

And next year I will take: AP World History, AP Physics C, AP Calculus BC, AP Spanish, AP English Lit, Not sure about the last class... and I might switch Spanish for AP Bio

4.0 GPA (school doesn’t weight grades)
school doesn’t rank students, but probably top 5% in class of around 500

Extracurriculars:
4 years swimming (1.5 years on varsity)
4 years varsity synchronized swimming (2nd best team in state)
National Honor Society
Spanish Club (secretary)
SADD (class rep, but am running for president)
Piano for 11 years, won some minor awards
Held a part-time job freshman and sophomore years
I do lots of volunteering, especially in the summer
This summer I’m also either going to an engineering camp at Umich or a biomedical engineering camp at Kettering.

I haven’t really done anything really extraordinary. I'm pretty sure I can get into University of Michigan, but what do you think of my chances at more selective schools like Duke or Hopkins?

Thanks!

You're in at Michigan.
Probably on Johns Hopkins & Duke, but Duke is more of a maybe.

You are a fine candidate for all of these schools. However for Duke and Hopkins take extra care in writing your essays. Other colleges you may consider for BME are University of Pennsylvania, Washington University in St. Louis, and UC - San Diego.

bump!
I'd like to get more input. Thanks!

great chances!!!!!

It depends on whether you are applying to L, S, & A at Michigan or to the Engineering school. L, S, & A...no problem. Engineering, the test scores in the areas that matter (math, etc) are a little low.

Um no...his/her SAT's is more than high enough for any program Michigan has to offer including Engineering.

I think they are fine for Michigan too. If he had 550s to go w/ it, I would say he is in trouble. But 740 is fine, esp. w/ the other sections (yes, even for engineering)

You shouldn't sweat it... My stats are much worse than yours and I got accepted to JHU (RD) and Michigan Engineering (after submitting my app 2 weeks past the Feb 1st deadline). My stats are barely top 25% of my class, 1330 total, 1400 composite, 690/630/630/540 SAT II's >_<. A very important aspect that many overlook is how much you can improve your chances by making yourself shine though on your essays and getting good recommendations.

If you really want to do BME, you should apply to Johns Hopkins Early Decision to increase you chances because they have the best program.

Haha thanks for all the comments... I thought it was funny some people thought I was a 'he', considering I do synchronized swimming...!

But anyway, I was also wondering which test I should work on improving: ACT or SAT? I'm planning to retake one or both in the fall.

My SAT percentile is higher than the ACT, but if I submit it to Duke, I'll have to add in SAT II's, which probably won't be as impressive (somewhere between 600 to low 700's).

Any input would be appreciated! Thanks.

If I were you I'd probably take the ACT's again if you're worried about SAT II's. Either way it won't really matter...you're ACT's and SAT I's are good enough as is.

your SAT score is really good already...

But then again i hear people who missed like 2 in math got a 740, so the curve was uber high
Also...do u think you can pull off 700's in CR and Writing again?

I'm pretty sure I could get 700's in Writing again, and CR might be a little bit lower but nothing drastic. Should I risk retaking the entire test just to boost my math score?
