If you're a junior now you would be transferring for your senior year... and I don't think Penn accepts senior transfers. Or maybe you meant that you will be an entering junior...

I am going to be a junior when i am transferring...i am a sophomore now....

well in that case, ur SAT scores mean a lot less than they did a year ago. So, that won't help u that much, it won't. As a candidate to enter as a sophmore, a 1450 could really help you.

yo-are you applying to wharton?

in that case, go ahead and apply, but whatever your stats-no.

btw...best debater in state? what, policy? LD? it matters. 100 hours of comm service was a requirement for graduation for us in high school..

look, man, you're going to need a seriously compelling reason to transfer to wharton itself if you really want to get in there. i mean, the company thing is great and all, but capital funding up to 5 grand isnt going to impress them. no offense. i mean, i already have ~500k in venture capital funding, but is that a reason for auto admit (edit: why was a utoadmit asterisked?)? no. you need a school-specific compelling essay, and i really just dont see that in your reason for transfer to wharton.

penn, however, is another story. the C of L&S has drastically higher junior admission rates (IN COMPARISON) to wharton. but really, that's where all the 'networking' happens.

im giving you my honest opinion. dont get offended.

Thanks for the replies...and for being honest..

I am from India so they had a competition for the best junior debater in State and among 1200 competitors, I clinched the top prize and got my award from the Governor of the state...

Wow,500k of funding...thatz awesome...wat is ur project, if u dont mind sharing...

btw, can u suggest me any good reason for transfer, specific to wharton coz my only want to transfer is to network ??

but seriously, do u think i hav a chance coz i dont want to try when i know im gonna get rejected......

i think you have a pretty good chance at UPENN. Ive seen quite a few kids from a wide range of universities such as UVA, UCLA, georgetown...etc etc get into penn with a gpa range of 3.6-3.7. You have interesting extracurriucalar activities, which is a plus. Make sure to write a strong essay, however, because essays are very important. I cant give you specific reasons because its your job to find out why you want to transfer....but if you have that nailed, UPENN should be easy for you. Higher reaches such as wharton, columbia, stanford, etc must also be doable.

I'd think that on top of a strong college record, a good SAT would be pretty reassuring. After all, I know for junior college transfers the SAT is still important, and SOME college say outright that SAT counts as much in transfer as it did as a freshman.

I know it sounds stupid, but can someone tell me the diffrence between wharton and Upenn?

wharton is the undergraduate/graduate business school within upenn, the same way haas is the ug/g business school inside cal. i honestly cant suggest to you a good reason for transfer to wharton, and since i havent heard anything to the contrary, im assuming that would be your school of choice? if i was you and i wanted to go to penn, i would apply to the general college. however, external transfers can NOT be cross admitted to wharton. by the way, web/tech networking at penn isnt really gonna be happening. If you wanted to do tech, stay in california, that's where the tech happens-up there at penn, with 40 percent of biz undergraduates going into ibanking, its not going to help you much even if you do manage to establish a wide network. i would suggest cal as an alternative; haas is equally as good, and it's more central to the silicon valley, therefore you would be establishing much better connections since the general tendancy after being in CA is to stay in CA. even haas transfers, though, are really difficult-but not as insane as wharton.

Wharton = You'll need a miracle from God.
UPenn = Reach.

escape, i would really hope that is true. I know for me, i am applying for sophmore standing, it still matters a great deal. The average SAT for a Penn transfer is a 1350, and I am 100 points above that.

bball87, where did you find out that the average SAT for a UPenn trasnfer is 1350? I'd love for that to be true, but I couldnt find any statistics for Upenn transfers. Can you tell me your source?

um, it is simple call up and find out urself. Actually, I was told by one that it was between 1300-1350, but then another lady asked me my score, and she said I should be fine since it is around a 1350, and I am 100 points above this.
