So, I was looking to transfer from Berkeley to go to a smaller school...with grade INFLATION, rather than intense deflation...hahah, thats not really the reason, but basically because I would like to have a better ugrad experience than berkeley offers
gpa: 3.87, sat I: 2020, sat II math and chem: 700, very close to my professors, so very good recs, research at the lawrence berkeley national lab in cancer biology (good rec there too, hopefully)

chances? what is the percentage of transfer anyways? does upenn have difference acceptances for different colleges within it?

So UPenn is one of my top preferences, and okay, if Wharton is the lowest, what about the arts and sciences one. I am going into biology, so that would be my pick. What are the percentage chances for UPenn for that?

thanks brand, by the way, do you mind posting where you got this information about transfer percentage, because i couldn't find it anywhere, thanks!

well, for UPenn overall I got it from USNews (which is 2005 data so will be a bit outdated, but I believe Penn has remained similar each year). For Wharton, I've seen that percentage posted on here by malishka or mishra (can't remember) - a person on CC that was admitted to Wharton this past year.

alright, sweet, thanks. so i went to the usnews website and the transfer information and stuff is locked, did you buy the service. do you know the profile of any transfer student who got accepted to Upenn by any chance? just wondering what they are looking for most

yeah I bought it...but you can also get data from collegeboard.com by searching for the school and going to the admissions tab and looking at # accepted and # applied. I don't know specific stats, but there was a really long thread on here of applicants, stats, and decisions for last year...do a search for "Penn transfers" or something to find it.

I wish I knew what they were looking for. ;)

so brand, where all are you applying, and where are you coming from? :) just curious to see how a fellow comrade int he quest for transfer is doing

the funny thing is, Sakky repeatedly drills it into me that transfer not only has a smaller percentage for most schools, but also has a stronger applicant ppool because they are very self selective. a student not doing well woulndt apply for transfer. I understand that, but at the same time there must be quite a few students who are applying from CC's, so i dont know...

Hmm...that's not necessarily true. I would argue that it's the opposite: top universities are generally going to see stronger applicants for the freshman class than for transfer. It may not be an absolute, but from what I've seen on here, the kids applying for freshman standing to Yale have been working towards it for a LONG time and are incredibly badass, whereas the transfer students may be very good, but aren't as insanely set on attending that school and don't have as killer of stats.

wow, i didnt know you had such a massive long post thing going on earlier, yep, i have no chance, sweet, after reading all those people with much higher sat scores than me, whatever, ill take a shot in the dark
