Chances at UT Austin Plan II?

Hey guys. I’ll be a senior in the fall and am interested in UT Austin’s Plan II program. I know that it’s very selective but I’d like to see if anybody might be able to gauge my chances at being accepted. I am in-state BTW.
Intended major: Environmental Science or Environmental Studies
Stats: 1570 SAT (790M, 780RW) (Probably low adversity score). 4.0 UW GPA, 1/40 students (I know, small class). 770 Biology E subject test, retaking math II in August. 10 AP’s, only know how I did on Euro (5) but I think I’ll get mostly 5’s with a 4 or two.
EC’s: Debate- 500+ tournament hours between 40+ tournaments. Speech captain my junior year and Public Forum Debate Captain next year. Qualified for my state’s (TX) state tournament twice, qualified for the national tournament twice. Academic All American (750+ speech and debate points, awarded to 0.5% of debaters each year). First student from my school to qualify for the Tournament of Champions. Nationally ranked Public Forum Debate team. Sports- member of varsity track and cross country teams. Leadership- Honor Council member all 4 years and Honor Council Chair senior year, student senator junior and senior years, NHS Vice President senior year, Varsity Cross Country team captain, peer advisor, admissions team representative. Community service- writing center tutor (reviewed writing of my peers and made suggestions and edits to essays), built bird and bat nesting boxes for my school’s forest to support animal populations and educated a class of students about it, food bank and pet shelter volunteering. Probably around 80-100 hours total. Other- Attended Sustainable Summer Environmental Leadership Academy at Dartmouth where I learned about environmentally friendly business practices and environmental policy.
Essays and rec.s: Haven’t done essays yet but I’m a strong writer and I think they would be pretty good. I have an interesting story being a Jewish vegetarian in the Bible Belt of BBQ-loving East Texas. Teacher and counselor recommendations should be very good.
I know it’s hard to tell from a forum post, but I’m wondering if I’d be a competitive applicant and if I would realistically have a good shot. Thanks for reading!

My daughter was accepted to Plan II for the class of 2023. She was also accepted to Dean’s Scholars in the College of Natural Sciences and would have double majored in Plan II and Biology. She really loved the Plan II major, but ended up committing to a different university. I think your chances are as good as anyone else’s. A few helpful hints: do your research on whether to list Plan II as your 1st choice or 2nd choice major and the essays are key so work hard on them.

@FrostyCakes I think you have a very good chance of getting into Plan II. I have two kids who were admitted and graduated from Plan II in recent years and they both attended small schools with about the same size senior class as yours, so that will not be a disadvantage, especially since you hold the #1 class rank. So long as they can tell from your scores and AP’s that you have the academic skills to back up your class rank, the size of the class won’t matter. Plan II is interested in your activities, that you made the most of your opportunities, that you have a range of interests, that you will take advantage of all the things the Plan II major offers, and that you are creative and have a unique / broad world view. They typically place A LOT of importance on the essays and answers you give to the honors prompt. Your writing skills need to be VERY sharp with some creativity preferred. They are interested in knowing how you think and what’s important to you. Your resume should show that extra sparkle. You have a great chance if you put in the extra effort in you application. I don’t know what the essay prompts are this year, but your topic looks good.

Be #1 is not easy no matter what school size is. You have very strong profile, definitely can get in

I think you have a great shot at P2. My child was admitted to P2 class of 2023 with about your same grades/test scores but fewer activities. Your credentials are more than sufficient, so I think writing a really good essay is what could make or break you. Since you are auto admit, you will get into UT, but I would urge you to get your P2 application in by the Priority deadline (usually it is November 1 but you should confirm). Good luck!
