Schools I am thinking of Applying to: University of Maryland-College Park, Duke, UVA, NYU, Princeton, University of Michigan

University of Maryland-College Park, Duke, UVA, NYU, Princeton, University of Michigan

Well considering you don't have your SAT scores yet, this is pretty pointless, but based on the information you did give, I would say:
Princeton is a huge reach
UVA and NYU are state schools, so they tend to place a lot of weight on SAT scores, so if you have really good SATs, like in the 700's, I'd say you were in
Duke might be a match depending on your SAT scores and considering your ethnic status and your commitment to athletics
U. of Michigan is a match
I am not family with U. of MD, sry

For now, I would advise you to study study study for the SATs if you want UVA or NYU, your SATs are the wildcard

Also, you seem involved in your religion, according to your courses, have you considered the atmosphere at these schools? Have you considered a religiously affiliated school where you might find a more religious community, Wake Forest or Notre Dame?
With your ROTC, tough classes, and ethnic status I would say you should look at Notre Dame for sure!

i go to a Catholic School so we have to take 4 yeqars of religion...im not really that religious at all

Anyone else

First of all, NYU is not a state school like one of the previous posters said. Most of the NY state schools either go under the name SUNY (State Univ of NY) or CUNY (City Univ. of NY). NYU is private and rather competitive, but I think it's a match for you if you have SAT scores around 1220+ (25th percentile at NYU + minority).

I normally don't predict chances unless there are standardized test scores, but I think your GPA already takes you out of contention for Duke and Princeton. Also your EC's aren't that great, but that's somewhat understandable if you have a P/T job during the week. Michigan and UVA are also probably matches, but the state schools can be hard if you're out of state. Maryland should be a lower match or high safety, but unless you live in Maryland, I would consider adding a true safety.

yea i live in MD

To be blunt (warning):

Your ECs are very weak. Your honors are..well, not real "honors". NHS and NSHS, although I do not have the slightest idea of the difficulty with the admissions at your school, is something that MANY applicants have on their resumes. It's nothing special at all. In addition, Who's Who and National Honor Roll is pretty much a scam.

National Youth Leadership Forum is mostly a self-nomination thing, and anyone that can pay get to go. Also your schedule: although "13 honors" may seem like a lot, your competition is students that have "13+ AP/IB" classes. Your schedule is something that many would categorize as a softer/weaker schedule than what most applicants of Duke and Princeton are coming with. Same for the relatively low GPA for those schools.

Overall, Duke and Princeton are extreme reaches. Same goes for places such as UVA and NYU. Perhaps you were/were not leaning on your URM status as something that might tip you in, but quite frankly, it would take some amazing essays and recs to get into some of the schools on your list.

Good Luck-just apply and hope for the best. :)

P.S. : Add some safeties!

my school doesn't have IB classes and Honors were the highest i could take for most of the classes

anyone else

Really need PSAT or SAT scores to make any assessment.

i got a 1700 on my PSAT but i didn't prepapre for it or anything..i should do much better on my SAT

I really do concur with what Tami said but I can say that ur most likely getting into UMCP. NYU is a match, but ull need to do much better on ur SAT than u did on the PSAT, and if u apply to michigan SUPER early like in september since its rolling admissions, then u shud be fine for michigan too. if u delay for michigan then each day ur chances will decrease. UVA is almost impossible out of state, and Duke and Princeton are super super reaches for u. So far, i think u have 3 reaches, 2 matches, and a safety....so add at least one more safety and one more match to ur list and do extremely well on ur SAT

hey candyman do u go to sjc?

University of Maryland-College Park, Duke, UVA, NYU, Princeton, University of Michigan

Honors Jesus and Church is the stupidest class name I have ever heard.

Basicly, Duke and Princeton are out of the question unless you create antimatter in a home made atom accelerator.

UVA and NYU are entirely based on your SAT. You do well, and they become high matches.

UMich, I think you have along with UMCP(whatev)
Good Luck

yea i do i go to SJC

and i take have to take religion at my school thats why i have jesus and church and it was honors becuase i was am in the Scholars program at my high school
