Schools I am thinking of Applying to: University of Maryland-College Park, Duke, UVA, NYU, Princeton, University of Michigan

If you score above a 2250 on your SATs I would say you have an excellent shot at a minority-based scholarship. 3.65 uw GPA is a little low, but you can make up for it with SATS/SAT2s.

Oh and one last thing...do not list National Honor Role/Who's who among high school students. They mean absolutely nothing and will make it look like you are weak in the ECs department

Its really tough to get scholarships from these schools...I've heard that UMD only offers 4 full scholarships. However, I think you could quite easily get a scholarship from NYU...I know a few people who've gotten them.

Are you interested in merit aid or need-based aid? I believe that Duke and Princeton cover 100 percent of demonstrated need; not sure about NYU. The others you mention are public schools, so of course they have less in the way of resources - but I think you'd be an attractive applicant for them.

I know a little about merit aid at U-M and UVA. U-M does offer merit aid to out-of-state students, but get your application in EARLY. That's a good rule for increasing your chances of acceptance, as well. Last year it was a pretty tough application (my d hated the essay), so save some time to do a good job.

Are you a VA resident? The only merit aid at UVA is the Jefferson Scholars program, which is kind of complicated (candidates primarily chosen from specific high schools) but offers a full ride. Here's the link:

Remember to hit up department and outside scholarships that also offer full tuition. there is a gigantic list on UM's financial aid site!
