I volunteer with a national charity for a disorder called Dystonia, and i have been involved with that for quite some time. I am interested in medicine and may even apply as a BioChem major.
Im hoping that if i apply farther away from the north that i'll have a better chance getting in. Can anyone help me?

you pretty much got in both i'd say. I wouldn't cally vandy a reach for you, but maybe their stats moved up a lot:

these were my choices back 4 yrs ago:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=312446

I am from VA, and if you're out of state applying to UVA, the SAT avgs for out of state applicants are at 2100+ and a much lower acceptance rate. Same goes for Michigan, UNC, Michigan, and even UMD, don't underestimate them either.

As with your "regular" class load as a freshman, make sure you mention your condition and how it may have affected you, but try to go for an advanced class or two as a senior

do you think i would have a chance at wash U in st. louis?

I applied there too and got waitlisted. you do have a decent shot there. did they send you tons of stuff in the mail after you took the SAT's?

Keep in mind i applied in 2001-2002 however, as per the link above.

yeah they did send me stuff in the mail but then again, dont all colleges send mail to most halfway decent students?

yes that's true. washu tends to do this a bit more than most schools of their caliber however. This is partly how they were able to move up in the rankings by several spots. By continuously trying to attract students with high SAT scores along with good aid. Harvard and Yale don't do it unless you're real close to 2400, if at all.

It's usually the mediocre schools that contact people in the 1800-2000 range so they can get their foot in the door with people who have these scores.

^^ not entirely true. Harvard and Yale both sent me stuff w/ a 1990 SAT

Emory - decent chance
Vanderbilt - decent chance
University of chicago - OK chance
Rice- decent chance

Match:
Wake Forest - great chance
Boston college - great chance
UNC - slim chance (OOS)
UVA - decent chance
University of michigan-decent chance

WustL - OK chance

You have relatively weak GPA, that will hurt you in some cases (UM for example)

I'll offer an opinion since I'm from Houston and my d attends UNC-CH. The oos status works for you in a huge way for Rice and against you for UNC-CH.

Rice is inundated with local applicants and the threshold is set extremely high if you live in-state, especially in Houston. They are actively trying to reduce the number of in-state kids to less than 50% of the student body, so that really helps your case.

UNC-CH, on the other hand, is required by law to limit the number of OOS students to 18%. The oos kids tend to have Ivy or near Ivy stats, but that is not always the case. If an applicant wows the admissions committee with interesting and unusual ecs and a well-written essay, sometimes the stats don't rule the day. Many of the oos acceptees receive honors and scholarships as well. (Since UNC is the premier public university in NC, it is also highly competitive for in-state applicants.)

I'd say you have a much better chance at Rice than UNC-CH.

Btw...WUSTL is nuts. Show a lot of interest...call, visit, whatever. I hear they actually keep track of this stuff. They also waitlist like mad. Not sure if they are gaming or not...there are those who think they are...
