So my GPA is 3.91/4 while my weighted is 4.44/5. I got a 31 on my ACT and I'm in the top 10% of my class. I did stage crew (theater) for 3 years (going to be 4) and was in leadership positions, I have a job, have played the piano for 10 years, and I am a tutor. I've taken AP Psych (got a 5) and I'm going to be taking AP Physics C, AP Calc BC, AP French and AP Stats this year. What are my chances of getting into either?

Did you take other AP classes besides AP psych? is the 31 superscored? What is your ethnicity/race? We need a bit more information to chance a bit more accurately.

High match/low reach

I took AP Psych in 10th grade. I will be taking AP Physics C, AP Calc BC, AP French and AP Stats next year. 31 is not superscored. I’m a white male (I know its a minus).

I think you’ll get into Rice but Vanderbilt may be a little of a reach. I sure hope you get in though; if someone like you didn’t get in, it would make me very worried (also applying to Vanderbilt fyi.)

Will you be applying to those schools for fall of '11 or fall of '12? By the way, I wouldn’t say white is a minus, just not a plus.

I’ll be applying this year. So in a month or two.

Also as a side note, I got a 690 on my Bio M and 730 on my Math lvl 2. I want to go into physics or math though and I’m unsure if I’ll even submit these.

Anyone else?

How many APs are offered at your school?

3 science, 3 math, 4 social studies, 2 foreign language, and 2 english. I want to go into either engineering or math/physics, so I’ve stuck mostly to that track.

I would have said most likely acceptance, but your 5/14 AP course load prevented me from saying so. I would say 50/50 at both Vandy and Rice.

My school doesn’t really permit taking tons of APs. Most APs you can only take junior and senior year. Most people cannot take more than 1 AP science class. (You need to take the honors classes before qualifying for the APs. I took the honors classes just chose to take AP Physics). And others you need prerequisites. Like to take AP Spanish you need to take Spanish (I’m taking french).
