How long were you in Beijing? Are you multi-lingual? that's what jumped off the page when I read it; any prolonged, substantive contact with another culture, particularly one of the world's most enigmatic economic superpowers, is a big plus.

i was in beijing for two weeks and i can speak some mandarin, though it is not fluent. i can also speak cantonese, but again, it is not perfected.
so do i have a chances there?

Put it this way, you certainly come across as someone I would like to meet and get to know. The problem is conveying that to an adcom with the limited means a college application gives you. Your job is to do something with that application that will make it stand out from all the other female neuroscience majors from Cali that will probably be applying to Wesleyan this year. If fin/aid is not an issue, I would certainly apply ED. And, I would put a lot of work into my essay.

scratch that gpa--its actually a 3.8
i am just afraid that because project ascent is not very well know the adcoms will not know the significance of it.
is there space to explain this program, or do i have to mention it in my personal statement in order for they to understand it.

personal stt/essay would be better unless you have something even more spectacular to write about than two weeks spent in Beijing, China. if you can link it to your interest in neuroscience...see where I'm going here?

yes, thank you!
but i do stand as a competitive student?

Oh, yes. You would definitely be in the hunt. But, be aware that after ED (Wesleyan has both EDI and EDII) everyone's chances are cut just about in half.

yeah i know, but i am still not sure if i want to go there for sure...and i have financial issues. soo.. yeah
thanks for your heads up and comments, johnwesley

can someone else chance me?
thanks!

1) Wesleyan is excellent in the sciences. Take it from me-- a potential Chemistry and Spanish double-major who was also accepted to CMU (Carnegie Mellon).

2) You should try retaking the SAT and raising your Reading and Writing scores. Wes' standards usually lie in the upper regions of the lower to the higher 700s, so you might wanna even the spread of your scores out.

3) johnwesley is completely right. You'll probably want to convey your interest in Neuroscience through an experience, though the focus should be more on your conveying your persona in a creative, effective, and clear manner than on anything else.

4) Wes is one the most competitive schools in the nation. Keep this in mind as you write your essay and apply.
