I'm a Hispanic, first generation in-state student applying to William and Mary. I have a 3.4 UW GPA and a 3.7 W GPA. My SAT score was a 1930 (CR-640 M-600 W-690), but I'm going to retake it because it was my first time. I also got a 750 on my US History SAT II. The teachers I'm getting my recommendations from really like me and I know they will help me out. Same deal with my guidance counselor. I will invest a lot of time in my essays and get them reread by people who can give me good insight and valuable advice. My extracurriculars are pretty good: SCA for 3 years and was VP for 2 years, Class Council for 4 years and was Parliamentarian for 2 years, Invisible Children for 2 years and President for 1 year, Fellowship of Christian Athletes for 2 years, National Honor Society for 2 years, football starter for 2 years, played club soccer for 3 seasons, and played violin for many years. I take the most challenging courses available at my school and my grades have had an upward trend.

Being instate and a URM will help you, but your GPA and SAT are both a little low for W&M. I’d recommend you retake the SAT and use first semester senior year to bump up your GPA.

Good luck! :)

I’ll definitely work hard to bring those up! Thanks for the reply!
