Chances at Yale

Hey. I'm currently a rising senior, and I plan on applying to Yale Early Action. However, seeing as how Yale is an extremely competitive school, I'm wondering if I should apply Early Decision to another Ivy with a greater admittance rate, such as Cornell or Dartmouth. Yale has always been my dream, but I'd rather have my stats "evaluated" here first, before I take the plunge. I've received e-mails and letters from various universities such as Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth, Stanford, Brown, and Duke, but I'm not sure if this correspondence is a good sign of acceptance, or not.

Summer Program - A Computer Program at University of Texas in Austin my rising junior year

I've also been selected for other academic honors, such as the National Honor Roll and Who's Who. My freshman year, I was a semi-finalist for the poetry competition at Poetry.com (My poem was recorded onto an audio-album and published in their anthology) I also plan on submitting a short fiction work to the L. Ron. Hubbard's Writers of the Future Competition, though I'm doubtful that I'll place. Because of my experience with and love for writing, my essay should be fairly decent.

First, no you haven't been accepted anywhere yet. The good news is you are a strong candidate at some very good schools. You have a decent shot at Yale EA, but remember that it is not guaranteed. Do find some strong match/safety schools where you can be happy. I would take the SAT again in Oct. Remember that you need 3 SAT IIs for most of the top schools, so plan now. I would put Rice on your list. Also, take a good look at Smith, Wellesley and Mt Holyoke. They are academically as strong as many Ivies, and they give both merit aid and financial aid. In aggregate, they could probably count as a safety for you. Don't dismiss them because they are female schools, really look at them.
