Uncle, gfather plus previous generations from H.

I second Shrek on this one--I am the fourth generation of my family to go to Harvard, but the only 2 people I listed as alum were my parents. There's not even a place on the app to put other relatives.

But if you have a unique last name that happens to have a professorship named after it and also be inscribed in the chapel in Harvard yard and you tell the alumni office won't they know? Maybe they just won't care that much.

I'm sure 5 generations will be appreciated. If you happened to get deferred, waitlisted, or whatever, a well-placed letter or phone call will tip you right in, especially if your stats are in the ballpark.

So in this case it is actually, uncle, uncle, grandfather, great-uncle, great grandfather, and I think great-great-grandfather. Dad went to Princeton instead. So only four gen for Harvard. Anyway, we let them know but there are no strings to pull, only people to inform. The real things is with my stats and this legacy what are my chances?

Personally, if you're going off of chances per-legacy, my money would be on Princeton--Unless you're mad famous or something like that, having some great uncles and godparents or whatever go to Harvard probably doesn't count. Good luck! :)

BTVS, take heart, I think it is a bad year for most people born in 1987...record breaking Ivy apps everywhere but Yale, which was record breaking last year. Everyone born that year went to elementary school surrounded by building construction/expansion...that was foreshadowing...also, sympathies to you in light of people I know who got in EA, much less deserving than you as you have presented yourself here, in my humble opinion. This is what is meant when you hear the term "crap shoot".

Well thanks for the support. Princeton has way better dance anyway - I just like the liberal Harvard thing. If it's a crap shoot and random stuff tips it maybe I should have told them I'm a redhead:)

I think you have an okay chance, it's probably close to mine. I have legacy too (father) and i made the usamo, and solid everything else (stats on page 1 of the zuma thing), and i was deferred too. Legacy definitely isn't a lock anymore, but I hope it's not just a tie breaker. I'd give us each 25-30% chance rd.

You are probably not flagged as a legacy, that os just parents at H, but you could be a development candidate. When someone who's family has given a significant gift and has promise to give more applies, the development office gets involved. Whoever in your family gave the chair should be speaking to that office.

Development will research your family's current situation and assess the chances of future gifts. So they'll be looking at the family's current wealth and position. Again, if you have something to play here, it's with the development office. These schools make no secret of the fact that they accept a certain number of development candidates out of financial necessity.

Your stats are in the acceptable range so you would not have been deferred if the development office wanted you. Get to work if you have something to play!
