Chances ED: No Reason, But 'Tis the Season

I reach out to you, random internet strangers, to give me an opinion that won't matter. Harsh? Yah, but so is Columbia ED, or so I hear. Actually I hear it's pretty lenient, but let me begin before I run into any more circumlocutions, a la Kerry.

SAT I Verbal: 800, SAT I Math: 780
SAT II: Writing: 800, US History: 780, Math IIC: 760
GPA: 3.8 UW, 4.1 W
Rank: 10/800 (public school)

EC's
Academic Decathlon (Captain)
Newspaper (Managing Editor)
Teen Court (Co-Coordinator)
Junior State of America (VP)

Outside-of-school EC's

Stand-up Comedy
Community Service
Kerry Campaign

Thanks for your time.

pretty high... i would say excellent
then again it depends on your recs and essay
good luck

Contessa--back at 'ya ;-)

I would agree with contessa...essay REALLY important.

Would you say that Columbia likes "creative/risky" essays?

LOL, I know exactly what you mean slicker...I'm gonna be honest with you: I'm not that sure.

But I do know that any essay that takes a STRONG religious/political stand is discouraged, and pessimistic ones are a no-no.

You want the reader to have a "feel-good" feeling after he/she finishes...that's all i can say

i wrote a really really risky essay that may not answer the question entirely
but i like it :-)

btw this is contessa from a friend's sn

yeah- mine was pretty nonconventional also (not to mention 950+ words...heh) but I feel alright about it. I agree with Delfire though, pessimism is definitely not looked upon with approval. As far as your chances go... well, your boardscores are definitely up to par if not above...

ur EC's :
1. ur captain of AcaDec, thats great, but how outstanding is ur team compared to the rest in your area- are you ranked high individually on the regional or state level?

Also, how involved are you with the Kerry Campaign? are you merely a volunteer, or do you provide substantial contribution to his campaign?

Can you give a little more info on your level of commitment + involvement in ur ECS? Plus what special honors/awards have u received?

Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice! My essay isn't pessimistic and I think it will give my reader a fuzzy feeling...shut up.

1) The team did okay, top three in both city and state. I was ranked the highest junior in the city and state, if that means anything (I'm skeptical). Medals were given out here like hotcakes, but I was most proud of my awards in speaking (tops in city).

2.) As for Kerry, I'm just a volunteer. Haha, a LOWLY one too, I might add--(walking door-to-door, trying to convince ppl to vote for Kerry!)

OMFG...Slicker, I can't believe you just said shut up...that was so un-tactful...no one said your essay was pessimistic (by god i didn't even read it yet)...

:sigh: watever

The internet isn't always conducive to irony--I playfully said that my essay would produce "warm fuzzy feelings"...then I assumed you might think "that's lame" so I facetiously said "shut up." No hard feelings ;-)

Haha ok, I understand. And Good Luck!

i'm a lowly kerry volunteer too :-D! 4 days guys
