can being hispanic help the really low gpa at a school that has AA like Vandy?

Your standardized test scores and essays would be great. If there is anything that might your GPA. HOWEVER, if you are from Georgia Tech, you might have a chance on transfer application. (I saw a someone from Goergia Tech with 3.6 GPA got into Vanderbilt few years ago. ^_^ )

Yeah, being Hispanic will probably help big time I'd say it's 70/30.

70/30 favorable palmettotree?

definitely being Hispanic helps incredibly!
if you analyze the past two years summaries of what admissions is looking for to determine admission (it was in their magazine--perhaps even posted somewhere in the archives at CC), you should be golden.
each school of vandy is somewhat different so unless it's Arts and Sciences, you should be assured of acceptance. At A&S I estimate your chances at 80% and all others (assuming you have some music ability--otherwise you can forget Blair) close to 90%.
Vandy had a program to recruit Hispanic kids. I am sure it is still ongoing.
Good luck.

haha thanks! this is quite a bit uplifting.

and i should prob. add in that i've done 2 service projects, and 25+ hours of community service in addition to those 2 projects. and i've also joined the comm. service group thing too.

Well, what would my chance be at like, Peabody or A & S

welcome to vanderbilt! don't worry about your chances

if i applied EA would that help my chances, and if so it wouldn't be too much would it

bump b/c i'm bored

so are hispanic applicants close to a slam dunk in admissions?

Schools need racial diversity, hence the probable chance of you getting in since you are hispanic.

Different schools have different needs. i.e. Jewish applicants don't have that much of a plus in the Ivies and Dukes and Emories etc..., same for Asians.

Vanderbilt really only has one minority population that is "decent" sized: Blacks. That's just because it's in the South.

If you're Asian, Jewish, Hispanic, basically anything other than a Southern WASP, you've got a huge bump. Have above average numbers and you're practically a shoo-in.
