Chances: Exeter/Andover/Milton

As a preface (Demographic information, usually considered with grading process): I have lived in Iowa, Massachusetts, and North Caroline; though the possibility of moving internationally is quite high. I am of Indian heritage though I was born in America.
I skipped sixth grade so I am a year younger, I am applying for my Sophomore year.

SSAT Scores, this was off the spur (I did not study at all)
Verbal: 749 (89%)
Math: 779 (86%)
Reading: 692 (74%)

Composite: 2220 (89%)

These are by no means desirable scores, lack of preparation definitely hurt me.

As for my Essays:
I am confident I did descent on these (hopefully not sounding too cocky there), I spent a lot of time on them and am consistently revising them.

ECs:
-Student Council
-Skiing
-Cross Country
-Track and Field
-Mock Trial
-Academic Decathlon (later in the year)
-Viola, five years

-I am doing the Intel Talent Search, not through my school

-I participated in National History Day last year and made it to State

-I participated in Boy Scouts until the end of last year; I made it to my First Class rank

-I will swim next year and am a proficient swimmer

Interview:
I have my interview scheduled for later in the month, but I am pretty sure I will do descent. I have been practicing a lot.

Recommendations:
In the last few days of the previous semester we were flooded with Student Teachers and Substitute Teachers so I was unable to get a Recommendation from either my Math or English teacher.

I can only anticipate a few "One of the top few I have ever encountered" but I anticipate a medley of the next two. I hope these aren't the schools looking for straight top Recommendations because I myself would only give my self "Top few" on maybe four total.

Grades:
Honors Chemistry: B (Weighted to an A because of honors)
Honors English: B (Weighted to an A because of honors)
American History: A (No honors available)
French Two: B (No honors available)
Honors Advanced Algebra II and Trigonometry: A (Weighted to [5.0] because of honors)
High School Orchestra: A (No honors Available)

Looking at this I will say a few things.
Not a straight A card. I screwed a few things up with careless errors but noting that I take the most rigorous available classes (and that I skipped a grade, I do not know how this figures in) it bounces my GPA up.

Final notes...
I can take the SSAT again if needed because getting into these schools means a lot to me. My Chemistry and French grades are not final because my Finals in those classes have not been graded as of yet.

I am looking for any suggestions. Thanks!
:)

You sound like your in the running. Your SSAT scores are definetly not bad, they are very good. Don't worry alot about your B's because every school varies on grading systems. Your EC's are very good, and playing the viola will help because not many people play it.

you sound like a really good applicant. as latin said, your ssat scores really aren't bad.
do you require financial aid?

So anything I need to be worried about?

"Interview:
I have my interview scheduled for later in the month, but I am pretty sure I will do descent. I have been practicing a lot."
Practicing alot? Be sure not to sound scripted: these admissions officers have been doing for a while, so they know the difference.

anyhow, i'm terrible at chancing since schools are unpredictable, but good luck :)

Thanks for the advice. I have been trying not to sound scripted.

:) thanks again.

bump

I need ten characters so....

Since you skipped sixth grade, you might want to apply as a repeating 9th grader. At least call the schools and find out if you can do an either/or thing. I don't know if they'd hold your age against you or not.

Wait.. I'm a bit confused. No one else mentioned it so maybe I'm missing something but didn't you say you were unable to get math and english reccomendations? ..That's a big problem!

Yeah, but if you explain it to the schools, I'm sure they'll understand.

yeah..
the schools are REQUIRED to send those out I think....
did you not give them the forms or did they just refuse to do it??
anywho, GOOD LUCK : )

I didn't word it properly it seems like.

Yes I can/will get those, just have to get to them. I can anticipate only a few of the top line, and a lot of the next one. That is what I was trying to get at.

I meant that I was not able to get the Recos as of yet :P

That hopefully won't be a problem..

Great Chance!!!!!!

i am not toosure of andoverand exeter butu prob will get through for milton

I have a question: Can 2 B+'s throughout middle school hurt you???

depends the level and type of class.

rao95, how did you get 89% overall?
i got math 99%(800) verbal 83%(720) reading 93%(720) overall i got 95%
i wonder why yours is 6% lower..?
i am also a 95
applying for freshman year at andover, exeter, sps, and choate rosemary

no A-s, all A and A+.... im a teachers pet, so recomendations will be good, but does the fact that im from connecticut hurt me, or only "okay" essays hurt??
i do play goalie for the 6th best hockey team in the country and we travel worldwide, but the only school looking for goalies is Exeter, so will andover and sps and choate not care about my hockey???

From what I have heard the three most important things are:
ECs
Interview
Essay

"OK" essays won't hurt you to say looking at your other high scores that pull that back up but no reason not to make them better. As for the goalie issue it's a great plus that you are on a good team for any school; andover may be more interested in that but they do not recruit you for something like a college.

As for why my SAT scores may be lower; even though I am same age I skipped a grade so my percentiles are against those a year above me, making it harder for me to get a higher percentile; I think. Our composite scores are basically the same, so I assume that is the reason.

maybe, but it goes by gender and age i thot

cuz i skipped 2 grades in math, but they didnt take that into consideration
