Do you mean "toughest schools in the boston burbs" like as in challenging, or do you go through a metal detector when you enter the door. If you answer to the later, that 3.4 GPA won't hurt you. However, if you went to an upper class High School where 15+ AP's are offered, you won't be getting in with those grades.

when i decided to apply, my college counselour warned me that i had a few more B's than uchicago was used to seeing. i attended a very challenging school . (oh, word to halopeno: there aren't even 15+ AP's in existence)
i got in, however. so, i can't speak for you since my GPA was still a high 3.9 with 3-4 B+'s in challenging courses. my test scores weren't phenomenal like yours, but my essays were kickass.
