Chances for a Minority

Hi, I am an african american female student at a pretty competitive private high school. I would like to know what the people at CC think my chances are into getting into COLLEGE PARK...and some other universities. Unfortunately, my parents have limited me to only colleges that are in maryland, or very close..

Hey! I think you have a pretty decent shot of getting in. One thing I am not sure of though, is whether they use affirmative action in their admissions process. If they do, you could be helped tremendously. If not, you being AA won't matter. Extracurriculars are pretty good, I might try and emphasize the JHU thing if I were you. Try and get your SATs up to a 1250 (they don't look at writing) if you can, and you should be in good shape. Don't be embarrassed by them, just see it as a way to improve! I don't think how you compare with other blacks at your school will matter, but it sounds like you are a good candidate, especially with your course load. Also, you are in-state, which will help tremendously. Hope I helped, best of luck!

I'm not sure how much being AA helps, just because so many African-Americans live around and attend College Park already.

This board seems to be dead....
but bumpp!!

youll get in but stop focusing on being black so much

and at college park, there are ALOT of high, high achieving black students with credentials that surpass many of their white counterparts
