Chances for a National Champion

yeah...ur in everywhere with those scores and national champ status. screw gpa, it is almost irrelevant to you.

we already said you'll make them all lol so wat sport????????

I don't want to bust your chops or anything, but you seem to be a little over-qualified. Not that thats always a BAD thing, but sometimes colleges want to see some differences in their class, and they don't always want the BEST. So I mean, you still have a shot at some schools I guess, but my mom (college admissions officer at a highly-selective school) said that half of her applications are from overly-qualified students who seem to be lacking in another area, i.e: social.

Haha I understand what you are saying ANCooky but I wouldn't say that I am "over qualified" since my gpa isn't a 4.0 and I am not president of the key club, science olympiad, math team, debate team, etc. Basically if you think I am some nerd or loner that only has sports to save me, you are wrong and hopefully that will come through in my interviews. Anyways, it's good to know that if I don't get into some of the highly-selective schools it's because I am overly qualified not because I'm not successful..

Nobody give her chances unless she tells us what sport it is. Come on, please?

Guys, come on, lay off. Give cruising some privacy gosh...

I wouldn't want weird smart people looking me up o_O

Anyways, your chances look great. If your ACT was like a 20 then you would have to rely on your sport, but a 36? Man, that's good for anywhere. I know someone who's a top 4 long distance runner in California, and he get straight B-Cs (albeit, in IB program) and Princeton is recruiting the hell outta him.

You'll do fine. :)

Thanks radronOmega.

I personally don't mind sharing what sport it is, since most people on CC are just random high school kids. However, my parents are very hesitant about CC because they are convinced that stuff on these message boards stays around for years and years. Besides how many of you are willing to write on one of these threads what your name is, what school you go to, and where you live? Basically that is what I would be doing if I said what sport I'm a national champion in.

Anyways, I understand that you guys are curious, but can't we just get back to the actual chancing?

Well, you can actually rule out of lot of those sports because most of their national champions are not juniors in high school.

"get back to actual chancing"

What else do you want? Ten more people to say how amazing you are? Obviously, you're in, at least at a few super-selective universities. For some people, applying to many reaches is a waste of money. But in your case, I would suggest mostly "reach" schools, since you have a strong shot at all the best - Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Duke, wherever.

I know how it is to be great at a sport that most schools don't have - I'm being recruited by Stanford for gymnastics and Yale for diving, but I don't really want to attend either!!! Thankfully, your achievement, if not a means of recruitment, is still a VERY, VERY impressive EC.

Sorry I just realized I never made this clear, I am the JUNIOR national champion in my sport...not the national champion.

Bump Please

also just to clarify- I am NOT trying to boost my ego and hear " ten more people say how amazing i am", I'm looking for some serious chances/recommendations on how to make my application stronger.

The problems that I see with my application are:
-low gpa compared to the thousands of 4.0 kids applying
-At the ivies, I can only be recruited for ONE of the sports that I am doing, not both since I would be expected to play year round. So basically I'm only being recruited for one sport, and then have an impressive ec about the other on my application.

You obviously enjoy playing the sports considering your lower GPA. If you were truly being recruited than you wouldn't have to worry about a silly chances thread, now would you? They'd be offering a 'squeeze play' for someone a national champion, no doubt about it.

Junior national champion?? what are you talking about
why don't you just name the sport if you really want a chance.
being a champion in say the luge is a whole lot different than being a champion in volley ball.

reject at all ivies. in at the rest

For someone as educated as you claim to be, you don't present a valid (if any reason) for not providing us with what sport you play.

Why is it a big mystery?

A bunch of people already said that you have a great shot at all those schools and I definitely agree. So I don't know why you keep asking people to chance you...

The OP is obviously exaggerating. if she was being recruited for 2 sports, and was an Olympic quality athlete with a 36 ACT, there would be so much demand for her she wouldn't need to be doing a chances thread. Coaches would be extremely aggressive and push for a squeeze play. Just use some common sense here.

My college choice is pretty much sealed at this point. I may still go on a few official visits but now I'm just waiting for October. I was just curious to see what you guys thought of my chances, since I know that nothing is guaranteed until I have a likely letter in my hand. Most of you seemed to be right and it looks like I will have plenty of options.

1mx, if you don't know waht I'm talking about with junior national champion go look it up. Honestly. And what sport are you being recruited for???

Please ignore this chance thread. Everyone is right, I don't need chances anymore.

To justcruising08,

Based on your stats, you have very good chances at all of your prospective schools. With your combination of high scores and excellent ECs, you shouldn't have a problem at any of your choices, and I have a good feeling you'll get a pretty nice scholarship/finaid package as well.

You might want to consider schools like UMichigan Ann Arbor for safeties. It all depends on your area of interest, though.

BTW, since everyone else is engrossed which sport you are champion in, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Taekwondo, since I'm personally a black belt and I know of a few very academically talented people who have medaled at the junior nationals from my school...just a guess though :)

probably one of these:
Archery
Badminton
Cycling
Equestrian
Handball
Judo
Table Tennis
Taekwondo
Curling
Luge
Skating

You Are An Idiot If You Are Too Embarrassed Of Your Sport To Share What It Is

she didn't say she was embarrassed. she said that if she did share what sport it is, then it would be like giving away her name on the internet ( b/c she is a national champion). besides, it is probably a sport that no one on CC watches or cares about anyway, so forgert about.

ps: what's up with the Caps on every word, thepack88? lol
