Im a Saudi student who graduated June 2006 from a Private School in Jeddah. It's one of the most competitive in the country and my GPA is roughly 3.8 .Though Im not sure if American universities put into account the number of subjects students take here in Saudi and where the Honor Courses matter (Since we dont have them here). I have a TOEFL score of 650, and on my SAT a verbal score of 650, a math score of 640 and a verbal score of 590 (kinda embarrased, but 25 minutes simply isnt enough to write an essay!). Georgetown doesnt regard the writing score I believe.

In terms of my activities in school I have a bunch of them - I established the debate Club, set up the Student elective body (Which I headed as president for a while) , directed a play in the 10th grade, and supervised a few fairs and galleries in my school. I have also been choosen as a council member of the National Student forum of Saudi Arabia. My school also nominated me for the Young Leader's conferance in Washington - which I could not attend unfortunitly. I have won dozens of art contests on a state, country and Arab World level and have worked with the famed artist ibrahim lopez for a while.

Im not really sure if this counts - but my family has a long history of public service in the country and I have an uncle who is currently an ambassador (He wrote me a recommendation, but I kind of lament that I sent it...it was too poorely written considering his lack of english skills). I have 3 other very good recommendations however.

oh, I'm saudi too, I live in dhahran though, im applying to Georgetown aswell! haha
what school fi jeddah?
Your SAT scores are good, depends on which school you're applying to at Georgetown, you'll have a biggger chance at the college of arts than the Business school.
Your Ecs are really good considering saudi schools are so messed up cause we barely have any, and I'm pretty sure GU will realize the effort you did in order to actually do something in saudi.
wallah,,,you have a pretty good chance. good luck!

Dar al-Fikr Schools, the mistake I will never forgive my parents for! :p

Barely any?Besides sports, I dont think Saudi Schools have ever patroned other activities. All my work was my own personal initiative - a mistake since no one appreciated it.

Im also applying to Ann Arbor which is good and I heard is far easier to get into, as well as Georgetown in Qatar. You?

I guess your right, I realized that my chances were low somewhere along the way. I tried studying the SAT via some books I bought, but to be honest, our schools dont provide courses.

well yeah, his SATs will hurt him, but they aren't that bad especially for Saudi students, cause we don't get any sort of preperation at all and we study everything in arabic, and most Saudi's get MUCH lower than that.
Yeah, same thing here, everything at my school I've done myself (MUN, conferences, everything)
I'm applying to so many schools, Tufts, Upenn, bc, babson, and the list goes on lol.
I'm coming to jeddah this weekend!

I live in Hong Kong, and we get no prep either, but through the books I managed to get 2150. The 650 verbal score is ok, but your maths should really have been 750+.

Also, even if his scores are better then most Saudis, its not good enough for Gtown. His scores M+V scores (1290) are actually 88 percentile, and his overall scores (1880) are about 86 percentile, so overall he beat a lot of students. However, gtown is a pseudo-ivy nowadays and they really want better then that :/

At karan/I think your right. Anyway, GU was somewhat of a gamble. I hope they accept me, but deep down, I dont think it was worth the 65$ I paid. How about Ann Arbor?I think I have a good chance there? As for the Sats, I think Im a bit too late to take them, maybe once I get into a uni in the US I might give them another shot and transfer later on.

At JB/ I wanted to apply to other colleges as well, but because of a bunch of factors - my lack of self-confidence, my Mother's vauge warnings of being thrown into Guantanamo, and my brother's strict "Only East Coast" policy, I decided to just try out a few. Some British Universities have accepted it, but I hope Michagen does.

Your coming to Jeddah? :D well, dont let the big rats infesting the cornesh come and get you, and the garbage is piling up in some neighbourhoods as well...

hahah, same thing! my parents have a east cost policy, or actually more like anything thats relatively close to Boston ex ept New york, but all is well cause most of the schools I wanted to go to were in that area, except cornell and columbia, but its alrite its not like I have the chances to get into those :P
