Community Service in Nicaragua -This I consider to be a big strength on my app. This summer, I'm going to Nicaragua for two months with Amigos de las Americanas to teach English in a classroom and Youth to Youth development. I've already fundraised over 2,000 dollars for the trip with the program, and I've already undergone over 100 hours of training and fundraising.

Other Information:
Location: Oakland, California
My parents speak English as a second language.

I am an Iranian Muslim at a highly competitive private school in
San Francisco, California (Lick-Wilmerding).
I have not yet taken the SATs or SAT II's (as stated above)
My school is fairly
small, and does not offer many APs but by senior year I will have
taken three (AP Spanish, AB Calc, AP World History).
My senior year courseload will be rigorous, I will be taking two
APs and will only have one free period. Currently, I am taking an
Architecture program at my school and I am proficient in AutoCAD
and have many presintation drawings avalible.

I am a passionate musician; I have been playing the piano since I
was four and play Percussion/Timpani in my Orchestra. I also
compose music on the side using Sibelius, and I have published
several piano pieces on www.sibelius.com.
I am currently interested in either studying Foreign
Policy/International Relations or Architecture in college.

If it makes any difference I'm proficient at Tuvan Throat singing :D

The school that I go to is Lick-Wilmerding (prestigious Private school, had the largest precentage of UC acceptances out of any school in California last year)

You look like a solid candidate for most of these schools. My only suggestion is to try to improve your GPA by studying like mad. Try to do some activities this summer that involves future career interests or intertwines your passion for music (Hint: Search for some good summer programs like the Summer Science Program, MITES, EPGY, Harvard SSP, etc....). In addition, I suggest you study for the SAT at least half an hour every day...this would be most beneficial in increasing your SAT scores and making you an even more viable candidate; hence, summer is an excellent time to prepare! Good luck! Persian Pride!

Persian Pride!

Yeah, I got invited to the Stanford Summer Camp and several other "invite" programs, but as I stated in the first post i'm going to Nicaragua for two months for Community outreach programs (sort of chews up my whole summer!). GPA at my school is really hard to boost due to the lack of AP classes, but almost all the classes I take are honor.

I think you're mistaken about U of Chicago and Northwestern. Both are very selective schools and both would be a big reach given your gpa and your estimated SATs. All the other schools I think you assessed correctly.

Oh wow, you sound a lot like me! Only with more ECs haha. I also play the piano, do martial arts, and have experience with architecture, using AutoCAD! And I run cross country and track. What a weird coincidence, haha

I agree with amptron2x. My PSAT said I should have made between a 1450-1500 and I ended up making a 1430 on the Second try. Your SATs are going to be way too low, and your weighted gpa will kill you. Being muslim doesn't help. one bit. Your curriculum is also very weak because you only have 4 APs total? That does not sound rigirous to me at all. I doubt UCLA or NYU is a match for you because your SAT scores will kill you. Also your leadership skills are lacking.

Okay first off, I have not YET taken the SATs so they could be high, and I think my knowledge has changed significantly since Novemeber.

Second off, my school only offers SIX APs, and we're not allowed to take APs before Junior year. In addition, you can only take 2 APs per year. Thus, all together I am taking 3 APs, which is actually alot more than most people take at my school.

The average unweighted grade at my school (again, argueably one of the most competitive high schools in San Francisco along with Urban) is around 3.4, and about twenty people each year go to Stanford from my school (100 people per class). I don't think UCLA or UC Berkeley will be a reach for long in my opinion

Ok that makes NO sense. For starters, I highly doubt 20 kids from your school go to Stanford. I have never heard of that many kids from one school go to stanford, unless you go to some elite college prep school (exeter, andover). Secondly, how can you go to one of the MOST competitive high school when only 6 aps are offered. Does that sound very competetive to you? Somebody agree with me on this one. This guy doesn't know what hes talking about. Oh by the way, I told you in my last post that my "predicted " scores turned out to be lower. That tends to happen in a lot of people.

Why don't you tell us the name of your school and we can tell you how competetive it is

Lick-Wilmerding. I just checked the numbers, 20 in the past three years, six last year. We are cutting down on APs because those courses really do NOT properly teach you the matieral; they just rush through it and you don't retain any of the information after a year. ALOT of students take AP tests and do VERY well even though they don't actually take the class (English, US History, etc.)

I live in San Fran, and Lick-Wilmerding is a very good school. It's one of our top privates.(i go to a catholic college prep that is a bit more competitive) The private schools here really do have excellent track records with colleges. But I have a question, even though Lick is cutting down on actual AP classes, do they still have a testing center where you can take more APs? Are you planning on self-studying? Or can you take any extra classes at city(college that is)?

I'm going to self study for several AP classes, and I don't think theres a "study center" per se (although I could take APs at City College, which I really don't want to do). Do you go to Saint Ignacius?

yeppers! i go to SI.
