Chances for a transfer to UBC or McGill?

I'm an international student and I just finished a year at NYU LSP. I need to transfer University for cost and I was looking at UBC or McGill since I can transfer my credits. Problem is my first year at NYU I had to start abroad due to space constraints and had to take a French class. Since I'm terrible at languages I got a C- then C+ each semester. My other grades were mostly A's and B's but thanks to French my GPA is like 2.95. My IB score is 36 which is quite a bit higher than whats required for my course at McGill arts but they said most of the weight will be placed on my University grades. Do you think I can rely on getting into a top Canadian University? I don't want to transfer down. Problem is I have to leave NYU now so I can't get my grades up so I don't have anything to fall back on.

I know McGill has a cutoff at 3.0 but I emailed them and they said they may make an exception for extenuating circumstances. Also does Canada have a different method for calculating GPA?

You do realize I’ve replied to your question already right?

Yes Ecce I realized, I was hoping for more than one opinion.
