Chances for all California Schools?

Looking for my chances on UCLA, Berekley, San Diego, and USC.

I don't have a "GPA" as I fell extremely ill around freshmen year, and spend 3 years on and off with frequent month long hospital visits. Some courses I was able to take, and some were completed by Credit by Examination. All medical issues are thoroughly documented and can be provided to schools.

SAT: 1970
ACT: 31
AP Test: AP Human Geography (4) AP World History (5) AP US History (4) AP English III (4)
Pending this year,

Academic Recognition

Qualified as National Merit Scholar finalist.

Honor Roll, and various awards for determination.

EC's

200+ Volunteer hours at Texas Children's Hospital, the largest Pediatric Hospital in the United States, in the world class Houston Medical Center.

Shadowed a cardiologist during a major invasive procedure twice.

Attended Medical Confrences throughout the country.

200+ Volunteer Hours at Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

Worked along Child Life specialist to inform children of their conditions and procedures they were to endure.

HOSA member.

Member of the Debate team.

And a few more.

Location:Texas
Ethnicity: Hispanic/Puerto Rican
Family members who graduated from UCLA and USC in the past.

Keep in mind I've basically taught myself everything that I've learned in my high school years. No consistent classroom instruction. I studied, and gained everything from textbook, and other resources. Took the hardest course load offered in my School/District, and have extreme Medical and Academic references even though I know they aren't required or requested.

Do I have any chance?

You definitely have good chances. Explain in your essays how your high school experience was different and how it impacted your academic career and life in general. I would not be surprised at all if you got into UCB or UCLA

Please chance back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1566729-chance-transfer-ivies-etc.html</a></p>

You have legacy at USC. There you go.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1565722-usd-chances.html</a></p>

jake: OP is from Texas. There’s no OOS financial aid so unless OP’s family has $55,000/year for him/her to attend, it’s not going to happen, no matter how academically qualified s/he is.

OP: USC legacy + amazing record = excellent odds. We could even say that you’re in although with such schools you never know, but still, you have the best odds this year so far.

What other schools are you applying to?
Do you need to attend a school near a hospital?

BTW with your extra curriculars, the UMN program in Rochester (with the Mayo Clinic) would be of interest to you, as well as the Mayo Innovation Scholars program which is open to students from Carleton, Macalester and St Olaf.

@MYOS1634 Yes, schools around hospitals are preferable. Not out of everyday necessity at this time, but just in case.

I’m trying to find a place with mostly stable and consistent climate. Cold air is hostile to people with lung conditions, so the air of the west coast is probably a lot better. Even in Arizona, or New Mexico.

I’m currently applying to USC, UCLA, UCB, Arizona, Arizona State, Emory, Oklahoma U, and Oklahoma State, Alabama, Oregon, and a few others.

What’s the UMN program all about?
