Chances for American, NYU, GWU, University of Miami, Boston College?

I'm a junior right now, and I am homeschooled. I'm looking at American, NYU, GWU, University of Miami (I would prefer not to go there as it's close to home, but I probably will if it's the most competitive school I'm accepted to), and Boston College. Georgetown is an extreme reach, I know, but I want to apply anyway. My safeties are UF and FSU (and, God forbid, if I don't get into those, FIU).

I've focused heavily on dual enrollment courses at a local college -- I have 24 credits right now and a 4.0. I understand that unless I stay in-state most of my credits won't transfer, but I'll have completed my AA when I graduate high school. I'm hoping that this will look somewhat impressive on applications. My overall HS GPA (including D.E.) is 3.9 right now. It's possible that the D.E. credits will count on a 5.00 scale so I can have a weighted GPA, but we're still looking into that.

I haven't taken the SAT yet -- my test date is May 5 -- but from practice exams I'm expecting around a 2000-2100. My math will likely not be above 600 but my CR and writing will probably both be in the high 700s. (I can't judge the essay, of course, but I've done well on the multiple choice writing questions and writing is most definitely my strong suit.)

I'll be taking the Literature, U.S. History, and either (or maybe both) the World History and Biology (M) SAT II tests.

Extracurriculars:

Extreme involvement in local children's theater. I perform and I've also been stage manager several times. I've won awards such as "Circle of Excellence" within their community throughout high school. All of the shows count for community service, so I will have a lot of hours.

Went to MTI's Junior Theater Festival this year with the theater group and won Outstanding Achievement in Acting (group).

The summer between 9th/10th grade I held a technical theater internship at a SUNY community theater production.

8 years of private piano lessons and 3 years of private voice.

3 years of tap at a local dance studio.

I've worked as a stagehand for the past three years at the above dance studio for the teacher's end-of-year shows.

Charter member of South Florida's chapter of the National Homeschool Honor Society, Public Relations Officer. (Getting community service for projects within the group, too.)

I'm worried that because my E.C.'s are so concentrated in performing arts that they'll work against me for other majors -- I want to major in either Criminology or Political Science/Government.

Thanks. :)

I don’t think that having all your ec’s in one area is necessarily going to be a problem. In fact I have heard many people say it can be better to focus on an ec you are good at in stead of being all over the place. I mean the closer they are to your major the better probably but I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Thanks – I worry a lot. I can wholeheartedly say, though, that I’ve thrown myself 100% into theater as an EC.

I should also note that I’m a white female with no hooks. My family’s financial situation is a little wonky at the moment – my dad’s a USAF colonel, but he recently had surgery and we’re not sure what’s happening yet. He may go back to flying for a commercial airline and retire, he may go back to work as a colonel. I also have three younger sisters who will presumably all be going to college.

bumppp…

Bumping again.

After further research and looking at my options, I’m focusing more on American and University of Florida. Does anyone have any insight on those particular schools?
