Hi. I’m wondering if anyone could give their opinion on whether or not I would be likely to be accepted into Barrett for Upper Division consideration as a transfer from a community college. Here are my stats:

Term applying for: Fall 2012
Current college: Scottsdale Community College
Desired Major: Double major in Film Production and Computer Science
GPA: 3.83
Credits completed (by Fall 2012): 60
SAT: 1420 (math and reading)
ACT: 32
High school GPA: 3.4
Honors program at SCC
Participated in plays, worked 20 hours a week during CC.

Do I have a decent chance of getting in?

I’d say you definitely have a good chance, particularly since you have the previous honors experience at your CC. I would make sure your letters of rec are from people who can really spotlight your merits. If I remember correctly, you have to submit an admissions essay with your Barrett application. I would suggest mentioning how you were able to maintain a 3.83 honors GPA while working 20 hours a week (plus your extracurriculars) - they’ll like that!

Best of luck :)

Thank you so much! Also, another quick question: do sophomores and juniors live in the Barrett residence halls?

^Yes, they do. Barrett now recommends students live at least two years on campus.

I am a BHC student (class of '14). I think you have a very good chance of getting in. The essay is a big part so do not write it the night before! Have family/mentors review your essay. Also, letters of rec are huge part of the application so make sure to pick good people to write them. Barrett does not focus on grades too much, so academically you should be fine. Also, know that even though you are transfer student you will be required to take The Human Event which can be a challenging class.
