I also posted this in High School Life, but figure I'll hopefully get a more Smith-oriented answer here....

-I'm a junior at a public IB high school (meaning they offer the full diploma, though few actually pursue it) of about 1,300 students in NH. We're consistently ranked in the top 5 when it comes to state testing.
-W GPA: 3.81 (end of sophomore year)
-Current schedule:
IB Global Studies HL (history and English, 2 credits)
Algebra II (not honor's level)
Chemistry (not honor's level)
American Sign Language II
World Religions (half credit elective)
Personal Finance (half credit, required)
AP Psychology
= 3 AP/IB credits, 4 non-honor's/electives

It is clear that I do not excel in math or science, but I am passionate about humanities and am very good at them. I also believe that I am at somewhat of a disadvantage to my peers because I attended far less competitive schools (all within one district) until my freshman year, which never placed an emphasis on challenging ourselves or pursuing selective schools such as Smith (more of a community college type of high school). This, paired with parents who don't really understand the world of college and never encouraged me to push myself, kept from taking the most challenging classes offered. This subsequently leaves me with average math and science skills, preventing me from taking honor's or IB courses. Also, my schedule thus far shows improvement since my freshman year; I took only two honor's courses last year and am now in three AP/IB courses, and next year I'm hoping to take three or four IB classes (IB Lit HL, IB History HL, IB Art SL, IB Environmental Studies SL).

Do you think I stand a chance at being admitted when I apply next year? I still have not taken the SATs (which I know are optional), but have been playing Varsity field hockey for three years, was an active member of student government and student council during my freshman year, plan on joining my school's GSA this year, am a first generation college student, and am very good at writing personal essays. I know it's hard to chance people, but I just need an idea as to whether or not Smith is totally out of my league...
