Hi, I’m planning on applying to some boarding schools for my 11th year. I would like to know if I have a chance at getting in them and if I should apply to more, just in case. I’ll be applying for FA.

Regarding Choate, here are a couple of actions you could take to increase your chances:
One, apply as a 10th grader; you’ve missed a lot of in-person school, so you would probably benefit anyway if you spent three more years in high school.
Two, expand on your experience with Model UN by attempting to improve in various types of debate, as Choate is probably always looking for students who can help them maintain the strength of their team, which I understand is quite good.
Lake Forest is in Chicago, I believe. I don’t know much (really anything) about it. But if you are interested in Midwest schools, you could look into Culver, Cranbrook and Western Reserve Academy.
First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to write these tips. I’m not looking for midwesteren schools in particular, and my family can’t afford to have me repeat a year in highschool, so I will have to attend as a junior.
Concerning top 10-20 schools such as Deerfield, Groton, Lawrenceville etc., what are my chances of getting accepted with FA?
Lower than your chances if you didn’t need FA, unfortunately, unless you’re applying to Exeter or Andover. Such is the reality
Anyways, as a student at one of those schools, every new junior I know is an athletic recruit. You’ll be much better off applying as a repeat sophomore. Good luck!
Well, we can see only what you tell us about yourself. But, based on what you’ve presented, as an incoming 11th grader without varsity athletics or other similar attribute, the likelihood of acceptance at schools like Choate, Deerfield, Groton and Lawrenceville is not high. So many great schools out there, many with extensive FA budgets for a highly qualified candidate like you. Widen your net.
You seem to have a lot of great qualities to offer a school community. 11th grade is a less common admit slot outside of filling school priorities like sports.
Is there a reason you have selected only two schools (which seem to have little in common)?
If you do want to go to BS next year and you are set on not repeating 10th grade , I would strongly suggest widening the net and adding some schools that accept more 11th graders.
