I’m unsure of how I stand in terms of being a competitive applicant for the schools that I’m looking at. I’m looking at a combination of schools at which I would pursue a joint BA/BM degree, and schools at which I would just pursue the BA. My stats are as follows:

Small, moderately elite private school in New England
GPA: 3.5 weighted (also slightly inflated by music ensemble grades)
Course load: one honors class freshman year, two sophomore year, three junior year, two next year
APs: Music Theory (sophomore year–5), Language and Composition (junior year), Literature (senior year) and Computer Science (senior year).
SATs: Haven’t actually sat for the exam yet, but based on practice/tutoring it will probably be around 2100-2200.
Extracurriculars: Youth orchestra
Jazz Band
Jazz Combo
Vocal Chamber Ensemble
Editor in Chief of the school newspaper
President of the Gay Straight Alliance
Model United Nations
Philosophy Club
Other things: Founder and Coordinator of a musical instrument drive for underprivileged children
Went to Interlochen the previous summer for composition; going to BUTI this year
Have won a few national and international student composition competitions
Teach bass to elementary school-aged children
Have won a few writing awards, published in literary magazine, have written for local newspapers

A note on my GPA…I have a learning disability that has made some classes, math and science in particular, extremely difficult, and my GPA reflects that. I have worked very hard, however, to overcome this and I hope that having a low GPA won’t dash my chances!

Boston University is currently my top choice, and I would be applying to both CFA and CAS…other school that I’m looking at include Oberlin (College and Conservatory), University of Michigan, Smith, and UMass Amherst. If anyone has any ideas on my chances, particularly for BU, I’d love to know (obviously this just pertains to the BA side of things).
