Chances for Business: Finance

Hi I'm a junior, entering my senior year in high school. I was wondering if I have a chance at Rowan University.

Cumulative GPA: 3.32
SAT: 1670
Critical reading + Math= 1120

E.C.-volunteer at library for past 3 years, selected in Executive Volunteer Association
founder of a club at my school
officer of a second club at our school
track and field athlete
in school band for 4 years now, entering wind ensemble as a bassoonist.
I have 40 hours at a religious camp.
I have another 40+ hours at my temple.

Chance me please! :D

Thanks!

The best source for this type of information on any school is the school’s own website. Also check out collegeboard.com. These sources will give you the middle SAT range for accepted students in general. If you want specifics based on major then you should contact the admissions office of that school.

My educated guess is that you are borderline as far as your numbers, but your extras look good. I don’t know if the religious activities will have much sway UNLESS you present them as community service, and speak of the benefits you added (benefits OTHERS gained from your activity more than what YOU gained). Starting clubs is good; Rowan is big on clubs more than frats.

Although the essay is “optional”, a killer essay that paints a picture of the kind of student you’ll be at Rowan might put you over the top. It will also help your chances, I believe, is if you apply as an “interdisciplinary studies” major, rather than as a “finance” major. You’ll put yourself into a applicant pool where your odds are better; you can always change your major to finance soph year. Won’t set you back a bit.

Even then, you might not get much money unless it’s “need-based” money. You might want to look into the NJ STARS program, and save the money until it really counts.
