Chances for Carleton?

I'm applying as an out-of-state resident... I'm applying regular decision because while I feel like I really want to go, I'm honestly not sure if I'm ready to leave sunny California to face cold Minnesota winters and other things, haha. And while I'm aware that the only real chances you guys can give me is the 31% acceptance rate, I still want to have a little piece of mind, haha.

1990 just this year... I'm not planning on taking it again. (630R, 670M, 690W)
I'm taking the ACT in October, so we'll see how that goes, haha.

I started filling out the common app and wrote a personal statement on my sister and how my admiration for her made me feel almost like a clone, sending me on a mission to find my individuality.

I’m also planning to apply to UC Berkeley and Irvine, as well as other UCs (depending on California’s ELC), Stanford, USC, and University of the Pacific.

You may have a lot of ECs…

Stanford: Reach
Carleton: Reach
UCB: Reach (OOS against you)
UCI: Low match (OOS against you)
USC: Reach (perhaps high match but I’m not sure)
UP: Match

Do you have a safety?

Carleton - possible match
UC Berkeley - possible match
Irvine - yes
Stanford - reach
USC - possible match
University of the Pacific - yes

Carleton seems like a reach with those SAT scores. By the way, OOS (as you stated in your post) obviously does not mean a thing to Carleton because they are a private school.

Okay, cool. I’m a southern California resident, so my safeties are UCs. In my area the top 3-5% (or something like that) from each school gets guaranteed admission into two random UCs; we call that Eligibility in Local Context (ELC). When they tell us which schools are available through ELC, those will be my safeties (:

Thanks for your help!

If anyone is interested, I did end up getting rejected from Berkeley, but I was accepted into UCI, UCLA, and UCSD, as well as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and University of the Pacific. I was rejected from Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, Berkeley, USC, and waitlisted at Carleton. :/

I will probably submit my intent to register at UCLA within the next few days!
