What do you think are my chances?
I’m an 8th grade girl applying for the schools above. I am biracial (german and chinese) and I can speak and write both languages fluently, if that makes sense. I’m going to be a boarder, and probably will not need financial aid. I am currently in a program where all of my core classes are two grades ahead, and also one of my electives (latin). I have high A’s in all classes except for math, where I have a 90. I have been playing piano for 8 years, and have won a few regional competitions. I also have been playing field hockey for four years, and am on a travelling club team. I will attach videos of my piano playing and maybe some of my field hockey playing. I am a member of NJHS, where I do weekly community service, and it’s pretty fun because I get to be with my friends and of course help other people. I recently took the SSAT, and haven’t gotten the scores back, but I think I did really well in both math sections, and the reading comprehension section, but the verbal section was hard. My essay was okay. I will be taking the ISEE in early January. My interview at Milton was a bit shaky but that is because it was my first, my interviews for Hotchkiss and SPS were pretty good, and my interviews for Choate and Exeter went extremely well; I think I did a pretty good job and my interviewers really liked me. I am going to have an interview with Andover soon and I’m well prepared for it. I am still working on my short answers and essay, and will revise it with my english tutor and parents. I am impressed by all of the schools and would be happy to get into any of them.
THANKS!!
I would have to know more about you. Have any more EC’s?
But, im saying you are gonna be accepted into choate, and maybe Hotchkiss. Need to know more about you for the other school
I’d say your chances are better than even but it would help if you were from the Midwest or were Legacy. ? any chances of those.
Nobody can really say where anybody can get in. It’s sometimes just luck of the draw and admissions can be very unpredictable. For example, I got accepted to Loomis Chaffee and got waitlisted at Blair, which is a much smaller, less known, less rigorous school with a higher admissions rate. Let’s not imagine fasle hope @beyonder12
I second what @cababe97 said. SwimKid got into A/E but waitlisted at Williston (which I believe has close to a 50% acceptance rate) and at Loomis. You just never know
Sometimes the smaller, lesser-known schools with higher admissions rates suspect you applied to them as a “safety” and that you have no intention of enrolling if you get in elsewhere. No one wants to feel like someone’s back-up choice!
Thats because if you get very high scores and/ or very good at sports they think that you’re gonna look at the prestigious schools and not the small schools.
Of course that’s for sure a possibility @beyonder12 I just meant that by saying “you are going to be accepted into Choate” you just don’t want to get somebodies hopes up. Admissions to schools are super duper hard to predict and it varies everyeyats so nobody can truly guarantee where somebody will be admitted, even if you think you know the school well. I just wouldn’t want somebody to think that they are in and safe when applying to a school and be let down in March (not talking about @jade234 specifically, just in general)
