@hahaha99 it appears you fall within the what CLA is looking for however gpa and act aren’t everything that UMN looks at in a student. They are holistic in how they review applications. They most likely are trying to get you your first choice and there are still a couple more release dates for applications before the deadline. Best of luck!
Thanks for the response. As a white male, I know I may not bring a lot of diversity, but I still have extracurriculars, work experience, member of a team (with a leadership role) + receiving an award for the sport, and some volunteer hours. I do have one legacy family member as well. There may be some other few things I included that I can’t recall. I’ve heard of this “very carefully considering” message on the tracker. I do not see that message right now, but I am wondering if it still exists and what it could mean. I’ve seen the same message on the tracker since October.
@hahaha99 no one can know about the “very carefully considering” message yet unless/until they start deferring.
@hahaha99 Good luck to you! We have had the same message since mid September. After watching and reviewing threads since that time, I am inclined to say that they put a greater value on GPA and tend not to be very holistic. It also seems as though those who chose CLA as a first choice are being granted that option before many who chose it as their second.
@CAmom01 Thank you! Very anxious but still somewhat hopeful. What makes you say they put greater weight on GPA and not be holistic?
@hahaha99 I have a DS who has not gotten in yet and twin who did. So I have been really watching the data from this year and last. High GPA seems to always trump high ACT for acceptances I have seen so far on here.
@CAmom01 I agree with the high gpa over high act. Standardized tests aren’t for everyone however looking at 3 1/2 years worth of high school can give them a good idea about the student.
we are in a similar boat. D19 has uwgpa of 3.5 and ACT of 32. 6 APs and an upward trend after a difficult soph year. CSE is her first choice and CLA is second, but either way she really wants to attend TC. Nerve wracking!
momfd19d20, my son applied (Oct 30) to CSE (did not list a 2nd college) but was admitted into CLA (Jan 19). He has a uwgpa of 3.3 and ACT of 32 (not so great freshman and sophomore year, but good junior and senior years), 2APs + 4 PSEOs. Very strong upward trend. Slightly lower stats than your D19. If I had to guess, your D19 gets into CSE (a shoo-in for CLA if she does not get admitted into CSE). Good luck!!
