Essay 10

My GPA is a 4.0 UW and my W gpa is around 4.89. Im ranked #1 in a class of 564 students. Im from a rural desert Californian city. I’ll be applying as Hispanic/Latino.

Ive taken 6 ap classes so far, ive passed all of them. Ive gotten five 3’s (I know, it’s terrible) and one 4.
My senior schedule is as follows;
AP Calc
AP Spanish 4
AP Lit
AP Psych
AP Gov/ H Econ
CSU Geology (It’s a college class taught at my school; i would be earning HS and college credits)

ECs:
2 years of cross country ( 1 yr JV 1 yr Varsity)
2 years of track (both JV)
50+ Hours volunteering at local library
*Not able to participate in any sports this year, i developed a knee injury due to an eating disorder and am not able to run

Awards:
AP Scholar
Top 1% of my class in my county (largest county in the nation) and a recipient of a 25,000$ scholarship.
Member of Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth pre-college student search (tested in 7th grade and admitted)

Im going to be starting a Gay- Straight Alliance club at my school this year in conjunction with volunteering in food shelters and a hospital internship

I figured my essay would be about living with an eating disorder and suffering through depression and how i overcame both circumstances and am more motivated to help people with their lives.

My intended major will be biology and then i will follow a pre-med plan. Any comments/ suggestions would be great! Thank you!

Your academics look solid but I think another EC would help. If you put a good amount of time/effort into the new club I would think it would suffice.

Also, your idea for an essay sounds great but might come across too broad (not school specific). GW (and other school, I’m sure) like to hear why you think their respective school is right for you and what you think you’ll get out of it. Furthermore, GW actually asks that you answer one of three questions as your essay submission. You can find them here: http://undergraduate.admissions.gwu.edu/essay-questions. If you are really set on your essay topic it seems it wouldn’t take much effort to mold it into an answer for the first question.

Good luck, and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!
