Chances for Cockrell

Hi there, I am hoping to study ME at UT.
Stats:
SAT:
790 reading
700 writing
700 math
In the top 10% for sure, but havn't gotten official rank for this year yet.
Gpa will be something like a 6.5/7 (That scale is kind of funky, I know.)
Ill have take 10 AP tests by graduation, all with 4's and 5's based on prior performance.

Extra currics:
Band
Water Polo
2 jobs (at different times)
German club
Physics club
Civil rights club
Founder/President of Engineering club
Financing club
Community service:
like 9 hours for helping a friend with an Eagle scout project lol

Awards:
National Merit Semi-Finalist
Some Duke university thing for performing well(relatively) on the SAT in 7th grade
A bunch of BS band things

Anyway I am attending a public school in Texas. I am not applying for financial aid. Oh and my sister is at UT if that has any influence at all.

100%, most likely honors as well. They only look at M+V and I had the same thing although it was 720R-770M and I got into honors. I got that Duke thing too, but I don’t think they count any awards before you started high school.

ok so i found out that my rank is top 9%. The university recieved all of my materials a few days ago. I was just wondering how long people think it would take for me to hear from the admissions staff?

You should have no problem getting into ME. Good luck!

I heard back on bealonghorn.com exactly 30 days after I sent in my application. I applied to Cockrell for EE.

ok that matches up with what I heard from friends. Is that possibly only for top 8% people?

I believe the only people getting accepted right now are top 8% auto-admits.

Cockrell doesn’t have to take every top 8%-er, just the “most qualified,” which leaves more room for holistic review applicants, which you would be at 9%.

[Engineering | Freshmen | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/admission/majors/engineering/)

Good luck!

PS - UT sometimes grabs top non-8% applicants on a rolling basis, i.e., soon after you apply, so you may not have to wait until late Feb or Mar.

why is your math score only 700? Most engineering students have 750+ and consider that section extremely easy

^ I thought 700 was a little light, too; however, OP is NMSF. I think that will overcome.

The UT site says that 1913 is the average 2400 scale score for engineering students, so I find it hard to believe that 750 math is average for engineering students at UT. MIT, sure.

idk i was just basing that off the engineering majors I know personally. And compared to the difficulty of making good grades in engineering math courses, getting a 750 on the SAT math is a breeze

I would think that A’s in calc BC are more telling than a one time SAT score

Because you are not an auto admit at 8% I would suspect you are looking at least an offer to come past the general deadline. They have to look at the composite of the class they are building with the top 8% before they even consider a greater than 8. Of course just because a top 8 kids wants engineering does not mean they will get it, but the E school has to wait and see what they have before they build their class. Now if you were throwing down 800 in each section and were some national engineering award winner that may not be the case, but with what you presented, I 1) Think you have a good shot, and 2) think you are in for a wait.

Lumpyfish, have you heard back yet? I would love to know what percentage of the engineering applicants have been accepted already. Do they fill most of the slots early or are most filled in February?

Dang thats a sick reading score. But yeah youll get in no worries. Honors is a low reach though
