Chances for Columbia University?

I live in New York City, and it'd be very convenient if I got in.

I doubt my grades though, I may be aiming a little too high. This is mostly my mom's influence on me to aim high.

So I'm a 10th grader right now, and my last year's and this year's GPA combined is standing at around a 3.4 right now, weighted...

My GPA is my only weakness, and I have been taking SAT classes, and will continue to take them for the next two years, and I have a very good chance at scoring around 650 for Critical Reading and Writing, and around a 750 for Math.

My current EC's consist of a
-basketball team I'm in outside of school.
-GirlUp Club and Key Club
-So far about 50 hours of community service hours(I plan to finish with about 300 by senior year or more)
-Plan to take Level 1, 3 and 5/6 NYSSMA piano tests in the following 3 years before graduation.
-Joining Guitar club

And extra stuff:
This year I enrolled myself into my first AP class; AP World.
I come from Kyrgyzstan, considered a third world country, and I'm from a poor background, so I'm pretty sure I can build on that on my college application, since my family came from extreme poverty.

My single caretaker is my mom, and we're currently US Citizens, since I heard Columbia is very selective on non-US residents.

So overall, what are my chances if I finish High School with around a 3.5/3.6 GPA Weighted, and like a 2,000/2,100 SAT score, my EC's which will greatly improve in the next 2 years and my background?

it’s rather odd to ask for chances as a 10th grader

you don’t really have anything significant right now

we really need SAT, SAT II, significant awards/honors, and such

though your GPA is rather low right now(really low for an ivy)

What type of lower Ivy schools would you recommend for me?

And what should I try to improve on in these 3 years of high school?

I’ve also read somewhere, that if you have a really good story/background they could actually consider you. Just wondering if that’s true and how much that affects my chances.

Your ECs are a lot but not significant.
My friend, 4.45 weighted gpa, 2370 SAT, etc. was rejected.

I suggest you seriously get on your grades and SAT. Then find an amazing EC that you are committed and passionate about.

Sucks that you’re from krygzstan because that means you’ll be considered asian.

is that bad that im asian?

@temir100 considering your only in 10th grade, nobody can give you an accurate chance. If you work hard for the next 3 years you have a good chance, but if you keep on doing that 3.4 crap your chances are as slim as the slim jim I bought 2 years ago.

Yes, it’s bad to be Asian for colleges. Affirmative action works against Asians, as they have the highest GPA’s and SAT’s. Realistically, I’d aim for another school because the GPA is too low. I’m sorry about being so blunt, but like Joesm112 said, people with perfect records get rejected all the time. However, 2 years is enough time to improve if you work hard, study and really put a lot of effort. Schools like seeing upward trends.

It’s a little to early right now as a sophomore, but you’re going to have to work your tail off the next two years to have a shot. I was denied ED this year with above a 4.0 GPA and an almost 2200 SAT.
