Chances for Cornell 2018/what to do to have a chance.

<p>Hi everyone!
So currently, I'm a sophomore at a highly competitive and tough high school in Massachusetts.
I was wondering what I need to improve on in order to even have a chance at getting into Cornell. I messed up this year and I really need to step it up for fourth quarter and junior year. </p>

<p>Freshman (Averages in parentheses):
World History I CP1 <a href="96">no honors offered</a>
Geometry Honors (92)
Spanish II Honors (94)
Biology Honors (97)
English 9 Honors (94)
Band (not weighed but 95)
Gym/Health (not weighed but 100, haha)</p>

<p>Sophomore (Averages so far):
**note: my grades have been god awful this year, i know that.</p>

<p>Algebra II Honors (83)
Spanish II Honors (94)
Chemistry Honors (92)
AP Statistics (81)
World History II Honors (86)
English 10 Honors (91)</p>

<p>FINAL GPA WEIGHTED: 3.89
no idea what my unweighted was until I used an online calculator, not sure how accurate it is, but 3.678</p>

<p>Other:
Amnesty International
SADD
Mock Trial
Speech and Debate
Captain of Middle School Debate team
Active dancer for nine years.</p>

<p>Volunteering:
Assistant teacher at local Sunday school for two years (100 hrs)
Will be full fledged teacher next year
Several dance charity fundraisers (300+ hours)</p>

<p>Any other suggestions as to where I can volunteer that isn't too typical? EVERYONE does the hospital, senior center, or soup kitchen.</p>

<p>Last summer I was in a HUGE dance fundraiser and spent most of summer on that, along with SAT classes lol.
This summer I'm taking summer courses at MIT.</p>

<p>So, what do you guys think would be the kind of colleges I would get into if I continued this way?
And what else do I need to do to have a slight chance at Cornell? A lot, probably. I know you'll say it's impossible, but it can be done. I've seen it happen.

<p>do well on sats.
get uw gpa up.
make sure your ECs look somewhat focused</p>

<p>The year’s not over yet, and don’t forget that upward trends look good.</p>

<p>To have a solid chance at Cornell you should have:</p>

<p>1500+ SAT CR/M
Top 10% of class</p>

<p>That will make you a solid applicant. After that, it will be up to your essays, recommendations, EC’s, etc.</p>

<p>ah that’s the trouble, i guess. i want to major in biology but my parents want me to major in engineering and i’m confused.
ideally, law would be wonderful but i don’t see myself being very successful in that field.
and my ECs don’t match up with that path, either. i just didn’t enjoy science team at all last year and i tried again this year but i didn’t like it at all.</p>

<p>and the top 10% is going to be tough, my school has a ridiculous amount of highly motivated people who’ve done well freshman and sophomore year. even if i do amazing next year… i don’t know.</p>
