I feel like my chances are really good; I'm an excellent essay writer and I have a lot of interest in the field of Marketing. I'm going to try my hardest to show Cornell I want to be there. However, the only downside to my application is that some of the required classes they need are going to be in progress at the time of my application(Core Bio 2, Macro, Stat, Managerial Accounting). But, I think my GPA, the fact that I've completed 15 Credits in a Summer B session with straight As as well as 22 Credits in a Fall session with straight As will play in my favor. Also, I believe my extracurriculars play a good role in my application(Treasurer of College Republicans, Student Body Deputy Treasurer); they are both relevant to my major. If anyone has any suggestions as to what I can do would be greatly appreciated.

One of my main concerns is my High School record. However, I feel that my College performance will show them how much I have improved and how hard working I truly am. If you have any questions, need more information, or have any advice, I'm open to hearing all of it. Thank you very much!

Note: I'm also interested in NYU, BC, Colombia, and UPenn. The University of Florida is my back up school; however I would prefer to go to one of the schools I listed.

AEM is probably one of the hardest majors in cornell to get into. Besides engineering of course. It has just become its own school (dyson) and its being said that their admission requirements will be even more strict.

With that said…

Your H.S gpa is very low for cornell. Did you take challenging classes?
Also, you SAT scores are FAR TOO LOW. you really should retake the SAT because that will give you the best chance of being accepted.

Students generally have in the high 600’s to mid 700 range on all parts. Cornell is still going to look at your h.s grades and consider them fairly equal.

Positives: You have some good EC’s. Stay involved and get some official positions.

Can you get good letters of recs?
The essays are also key. you have to nail them.

I just transfered into the AEM program at cornell. there were only 40 students accepted for the fall. so that gives you a general idea of its selectivity.

As for upenn and columbia. you have close to no shot. If you were not a competitive freshman applicant then you can forget about transferring.

Sorry to be so negative. But someone has to be honest and let you know the reality of the situation

their admittance rate was 11%, and their median SAT score was 1475 (out of 1600). that was in an email from the AEM department that was sent to me after being accepted. reffering to the new aem freshman

That was my unweighted; my weighted was roughly 3.9(not much better, I know). I hear that retaking the SAT is actually a bad thing to do because they want to see what you were at before a collegiate level. Also, the extremely positive trend that I have, which I hear from many advisors, is something they really look for. Even the transfer people at Cornell that I spoke to said that the high school performance is a secondary factor to the personal statements and college GPA.

As for my letters of recommendation, they should be excellent. I have the Math Department chair of my school as one who I have built a close relationship with, and I’m trying to choose a great second recommendation. As I said before, essay writing is my strong point, so I am not concerned about that either.

I appreciate the criticism and I’m definitely going to consider everything you said; I knew that UPenn and Colombia were stretches. Basically, I just need to know what I can do to improve my application and make myself more competitive. I’m working on finding an internship.
